i need a quick qestion answered is there a passwd history anywhere on an untrusted system and if so where and what is default setting

You can define it in /etc/default/security,

Hi Andy,

Not that I'm aware of.

If the system were trusted you could use PASSWORD_HISTORY_DEPTH, which is documented in security(4) [this man page is only available at 11i, or from docs.hp.com]

Hi by default there is no password aging on untrusted systems.

I know this doesnt answer ur question :-) but on a trusted system the password history is maintained in /tcb/files/auth/system/pwhist directory
