Patch Dependencies

Hello Everyone,
I'm just reviewing the required patches for Oracle DB 10G on HPUX. Just a general question with regards to "patch dependencies". How critical is this? Perhaps I'm being a bit lazy here, but I only have 4 patches to install, but they have numerous dependencies.

Re: Patch Dependencies

When you go through the ITRC patch database and select your 4 patches, any dependencies should be selected along with them. I usually just download everything. The alternative is to manually go through each dependent patch to check if it is already installed and I'm basically lazy. Then I let SD weed out the already installed patches when I install.

Re: Patch Dependencies

dependencies, as enforced by the HP ITRC patch database, are absolutely necessary and should be religiously followed in order not to end up with inconsistent and unstable systems.

If the dependency is given by vendor, for a specific patch, for the functionality of their application, that is something that you have to investigate and discuss with the vendor as all app.s require different set of software and different versions of it. If it is coming from a reputable vendor with a large user base, like oracle, like SAP, I would believe them.

Re: Patch Dependencies

Thanks. Didn't know the SW Depot would grab the associated dependencies - that's slick.
