patch installation
1. I am going to install patches for hp-ux 11.0.
My question is what all precautions i have to take before installing the patches.
2. In HP site he gives patch details with criticallity of the patch. whatever mentioned in hp site patch with critical symbol, does it really affect the system if i install that particular patch.
pl tell me how to start installing the patches.
Thanks in advance.

Re: patch installation
Download patches into a dedicated area (/tmp/patches for example) and then create your depot files: vi the downloaded patch (PH****.txt) and then run sh on the resulting file (sh PH****.txt).
If you have any depot files which depend on each other you might like to bundle them using create_depot_hp-ux_11 (for HP-UX 11).
Note that PHKL (kernel) patches reboot your system. Any other patches that will cause a reboot have a picture of a monitor on the download page.

Re: patch installation
1. As mentioned above
2. If there are critical patches available then they should be installed, one thing to note is that patches will not be installed if they have no reason to be installed on your server.
Check out this link and follow the instructions, the whole process will assess your server's specific needs with regard to patches.
