patch vs depot

I've been dowloading patches from the hp website for dataprotector 6.0 and some of them come over as .depot files and some have no extension (i.e. phss_36100) . I know how to handle the .depot files but what's with the other one ???

Re: patch vs depot

Hi

Select all the single patches that you want to download from the HP site and then, download it with tar option. After down loading it and when you untar it , there will be a create_depot script in the tar bundle. ( remember to put all this patch files in a temperory directory).

then you run this create_depot script from HP and it will create a depot for you .

Re: patch vs depot

Hi Donald:

You want to 'unshar' the file --- its a shell archive:

# sh PHXX_nnnn

This will create a '.txt' and a '.depot' file.

Re: patch vs depot

for each individual patch, there are 2 choices: HTTP or ftp. If you select ftp, then next page bring you to th site something like:ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_31923, here PHCO_31923 as an example. don't save it, but go to you UNIX system, do:
#ftp ftp.itrc.hp.com, give anonymous login and give the password, go the directory hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X;get PHCO_31923;exit from ftp, then do sh PHCO_31923

If you select many patches at the same time, it will give you winzip file or give you a script to down load, which is depending on the size of the patch bundle.
If you don't see "tar", then your patch size does not fit that catagry. Hope help. Good Luck.

Re: patch vs depot

Donald,

try to #sh PHSS_36100 11.23 OV DP6.00 IA-64 patch - LOCALIZATION packet

Make sure you are installing DP patch for IA box not PA box (it will not work).

PHSS_35905[958]: Syntax error at line 962 : `<<' is not matched.

This typically means the patch is corrupted because you didn't download it in binary mode.
Or since "<<" is part of a here document, the file was truncated.

As mentioned, this only happens if you download more then one patch.
