Re: patching
One way is to use the Support Plus CD (can be downloaded as well) on a regular basis.
You can also take a look at the custom patch manager utility in the ITRC in the Maintenance and Support area. As long as your id is linked to a support agreement you can use this, otherwise you can purchase it.
There is also the fairly new security_patch_check utility available at:
http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProductInfo.pl?productNumber=B6834AA
This will list all patches with warnings as well as recommended security patches you should install on a regular basis.
Hope this helps
Chris

Re: patching
The new ITRC Patch database obsolves you of this tedium. Start with a patch to download. You can add it to your "cart" and all its dependencies will be added to the cart too. You can select multiple patches and the dependencies of each will be added to the cart. When you are done, choose a 'gzip' archive. What's then downloaded to you is a compressed archive that contains a README file, and a script to install the patches and dependencies.
Regards!
