PDF's on docs.hp.com

Hi all,

i had a look at the http://docs.hp.com site yesterday. As everybody knows, this site contains all onlinedoku for HP-UX. But i couldn't believe what i saw. There is a note at the bottom left of the site:

PDF files on this site require Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 to view.

Hahaha very funny: THERE IS NO ACROBAT READER 5.0 FOR HP-UX!

HP what are you trying to tell me? I should by a supremehighend HP-UX server form you because this is much better than those Wintel boxes. And then i have to buy one of those Wintel boxes just to read the onlinedocs for my highend server?????

HP, do you really think this is logical?

Headshaking

Re: PDF's on docs.hp.com

Hi Stefan:

Well, I suppose the good news is that most (but not all) of the documents are available in HTML format. This is certainly not perfect but is better than the absence thereof. ;-)

Re: PDF's on docs.hp.com

Most of the docs are still in the older pdf format so you can open them, I guess its only for new or updated pdf docs. At the adobe site you can get v5 for Solaris and Linux, just not HP-UX yet, I cant image its far away. Only adobe can answer when.

But yes, It doesnt seem particularly bright of HP to announce this without the requisite software being available just yet for HP-UX !

Re: PDF's on docs.hp.com

But most of the docs are still in version 4 format. I have not installed 5 yet and 4 still works for all the ones I have worked with.

I wonder why they say 5 is required?

Re: PDF's on docs.hp.com

I allready found one only viewable with Acrobat5, but forgot to copy the link.

I wonder why they kick off all pure HP-UX users. The PDF's don't contain any fancy stuff. I am sure the could have configured their distiller to produce Acrobat4 compatible PDF's without loosing any functionality.

As far as im concerned this behavior is absolutely unnecessary. That made me angry.

Hi

Nice Observation... This means that HP always think advance..far ahead of others.. Now ball is in adobe's net.

Re: PDF's on docs.hp.com

HP must have a secret agreement with Microsoft. First predictive is being replaced by a product that only runs on Windows 2000. Now requiring a version of Acrobat reader that is only supported on windows.

Sounds like a Commie plot! (Oops! There aren't any more commies! :-) )
