Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Dan,

Now I know you're full of it. I thought you were in IT, not politics.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Redhat 7.3 & Netscape 7.02

Loooks pretty good. I like the increased size of the reply box It lets me see more of what I'm typing.

The new buttons look great and the colors are nice... although they don't look as though they've changed much. so far so good.

The brown bar that say reply at the top of the reply screen is ...an interesting choice of colors but overall I like it

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Note to searchers:

If you need the patches, docs, papers, etc. options for a search, you need to click "more options" first.
I DO like the fact that you don't have to navigate anywhere for a simple forum search.
And Pete, I see larger fonts with IE 6. And it appears the text entry box IS bigger as well.
So far I like it - but at first it looked like the style I'd get from time to time when the whole page didn't load correctly - like it missed the font selection command.

Later,
Jef

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

One thing I DO NOT like is that after replying I don't get the option to return to the message I just posted in or back to HP forums. PLEASE BRING THAT OPTION BACK!!!

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Ok dan - sorry for that last post... i found the option to get back to the message you just came from (when replying) but I must say that It wasn't where it used to be. It would be nice to see it in the top and in the body (the way it used to be)

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Just saw the change- Layout ok. But fonts are now too big. Font style looks nice, but it was nicer to have more information presented in my field of view.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

I just noticed it too... the fonts are WAY too big... how do I change this? or is this something you need to do Dan?

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Guys,

Use Netscape 7.x under HP-UX 11.x - The fonts are tiny.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Hi Dan:

Aside from the much larger (better) text box for replies, the fonts are too BIG (using IE 6)!!! This is NOT an improvement in my mind. I find that the pages are cluttered; the double arrows annoying and the alignment of text exceedingly poor.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Dan - looks like you fixed the fonts... good job. Now I can see more in my screen without the need to scroll

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Dan,
Now I am seing Arial fonts, which are very nice. It looks better now.

But when I use mozilla, the response time in moving around the window is bad. This is not the case with IE.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Hi (again) Dan:

OK, the font size has suddenly improved. Now, I wonder about something else. At the botton where the copyright symbol would normally appear is this:

? 1994-2003 Hewlett-Packard Company

...does this mean that HP isn't sure if they like their new Forum's look? :-))

...(but) at least, you finally updated the years as I noted to you last year!

Regards!

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Hi Dan,

Well, maybe my sense of aesthetics is different from everyone elses, but I can't say much that's positive about the new look.

I personally don't really like it. It looks to me like you took a step backwards. That's just one mans opinion though.

Maybe the new look will grow on me.......

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

You're not alone, Patrick. Didn't do much for me, either. I'll go back to my original comment. It seems like a waste of resource to be screwing around with the window dressings when the building is falling down.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Dan,

It is a shame that you loose almost the half length of the window with the upper frame (hp home, products&services,...) and then the information of the forum you're browsing (top users and so on) and that only two or three messages are displayed on the window.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Not bad, looks kinda errr fresh.

Lets for now say I do not `dis'like it. Looks not any slower so that's good.

BUT WHERE IS MY 100%??? I still got half of my screen white! that's such a waste.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

I like the new look of the forums.

This actually addresses a question one of my management asked me about the other day, as to why this HP site was different than the one they frequent. (I had pointed them to a solution found in a search).

My only nitpick about the style, is that it now I have to widen my browser window or scroll over to see everything on the right hand side.

Good Job on the cut-over!

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Pete, did you have your speeder still running? Mine was stalled for some unobvious reason. Just restarted it. Would be nice to see if the new look influenced (hopefully for the better) the overall speed.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Hi Dan,
RH 9 and tried Mozilla 1.2.1 and Galeon. Looks great in both now that style sheet sticks to that elegant Arial.
I still agree with Khalid suggestion to mix submit and reply button in only one.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

While I like the new look I wish you'd use more of the screen space. Anyway you can put your columns in percentages instead of fixed sizes so those of us running more than 800x600 can use the full screen?

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Merijn,

I've been neglect, but I will start running the "speeder" regularly. I really don't expect to see much of a difference, as most of the changes "appear" to be cosmetic. We shall see, my friend!
