Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

I regret to inform you that the changes do not work right on Mozilla 1.3

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/

Leaves the mozilla user with nowhere to go.

I WAS using mozilla wherever possible.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

One quick like:

Printable version button.

I always forget and get unusuable prints the first time in the old format when I print something for my emergency book otherwise known as Steve's book of magic.

Dislike:

I went into printible and tried to hit the reply button and nothing happened. If this is by design, what is the reply button doing there?

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

More from me.

If I bypass that link I was complaining about it works just fine in mozilla 1.3.

The problem is I never bothered to bookmark the site. itrc.hp.com Then click away. Guess its time to set up some bookmarks if I want to keep using Mozilla.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Hi Dan,

It looks nice, but this is not a standard HP site, this is different, and would have a different look.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

WINDOWS XP
OPERA 7.11:
The fonts are bigger and appear to be ARIAL
The point assignment still does not work
404 are still there.
fastest to display the screens

NETSCAPE 7.01:
Fonts are small but appear to be times New Roman
Point assignment is ok
slow to display

IE 6:
The fonts are bigger and appear to be ARIAL
fast display

Lot of space lost on the screen but it gives "air" to the display...

I agree with the idea of a combined button: assign+reply

Thanks

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

As already said in the issues thread, search always redirects me to unuable US site. When I then click on european site it does work. Brrrrr. I like this functionality, if only it could work as expected.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Hi

Hmm, undecided about whether I like it or not.

Only one comment, when the last reply is white, it doesn't define the end of the page and it all looks a bit odd. Perhaps a bit of shading would help.

However, if it works better, I am happy.

Dan:

I agree with Keely's comment. It looks kind of incomplete when the last reply is white.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

If you're using Netscape 7.x under HP-UX 11.x, everything is white. There's no shading at all. Responses just run into each other with no delineation other than the line under the date/time stamp. Quite disconcerting!

And the font is so "fine" (i.e. the individual characters are narrow - like fine pitch?), that the subtle color difference between read and unread threads is indiscernable.

Overall, I'm not happy. I could switch to IE on my laptop but then I'd have to suffer through the "multiple submit on points assignments" syndrome as well as all the other IE problems.

Sorry, Dan & team, but I've got to give you a failing grade on this one.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

I think it's nice (ie6/windohs). Noticed no hics apart from the usual.
It works for me (tm)

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

even on winders everything is alternating white with mozilla... although I'm now going to stick with moz since I can assign points first go + there is no problem with the http://url/(equal sign) as with ie... I guess you can't win them all..
It works for me (tm)

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Dan,

Think netscape is not very fond of your new forum.

Attachement print screen in a word doc.

Hello!

I think about the feature that people
will have to finish the question dialog
with posting in the end the solve of the
problem that others could learn from.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

More fun.

I'm going to test Mozilla 1.2 with HP-UX 11.11 later today. If time permits.

My earlier Mozilla issue was probably a performance issue. A few hours later it worked. I do love working with multiple mozilla tabs.

I would like a link to the advanced itrc search available without an extra click. I almost never limit my searches to just forum posts, I like to find manauls and articles.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Is it my imagination or is it faster?
Text box for replies is MUCH improved

For the future

A] Because I only have a small screen...
Use the wasted space down the right hand side
Too much of the top of my screen is full of bells & whistles

B] Because I like fun & fair play...
& because only a small portion of the World = WASP males...
Greater choice of "My Profile" characters for
- Women
- The majority [who don't live in "The West"]
- Clog wearers
- Rednecks [You know who you are]
- Antipodeans
- Wild Geese
- Astronomers
- Aliens [yes they are amongst us]

Anyhow Dan
Thank you

It's working almost as smooth as Guinness
Which reminds me

It's 4.30pm...

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

the printable version is nice.. just wondering if that's new with this skin or if it's been there for a while? Much better than the old lanscape instructions in any case.

Hi Bill,

I think you're just very thirsty my friend, as your Freudian slip clearly shows. ;~)

And is it the 4th crown or the desire to be a 5-digit man the driver here?

Have a great weekend,

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Dan,

Overall, good job with the revision!

One minor issue: I would like to echo what Mike Stroyan said in:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x319d44f56197d711abdc0090277a778c,00.html

Mike phrased it so well, I would like to quote him here:

One thing that really bugs me about the forum is the formatting of free-flowing text when one or more really long lines are added to a reply. Whenever someone puts in a really long url it stretches the width of the window. Simple text suddenly flows all the way out to the ends of those very wide, horizontally scrolled, areas.
Such topics would be much more readable if simple text continued to fold at a reasonable width.
========= (end quote)

We all know that having to scroll both vertically and horizontally is a design flaw.

Any chance of implementing Mike's suggestion?

Also, I join the others in praising the larger reply box. For detailed replies, I usually cut-and-paste from notepad, anyway.

Thanks, and happy weekend to all.

:-) Jay

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

Jay (and Mike),

If line length was arbitrarily split, URL posting would cease to function! I think I can put up with a little scrolling, even though I think that the only good mouse is either Mickey or a dead one in a trap.

Re: Pending Change to Forums Look

The changes have passed the Mozilla 1.2.x test on HP-UX 11.11

Congrats: The changes are growing on me, whether I like it or not.
