Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005

Andrew, read patrick wallek offers forums etiquette guideline at http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=140137 for what is generally accepted as guiding rules for congrat threads

I'm the collecting statistics on and about the forum. It's gotten way beyond my original intent, which was to see how I did myself. It's just that the `general public' liked it so much that I continued to this extent.

I don't start congrats myself, but I'll post the member's metric on posts I see, or on posts I am invited to in the forum sections I don't often visit myself.

The people that often start the congrats, do this either because they read the forum statistics in my monthly threads or because they saw a promotion happen and thought the promotee just deserved the post.

To Procura;

First of all i really would like to thank to
you about your permanent montly forum statistics...
is it possible to get such a kind of statistic where shows total members&country and total country points?
it is only my interest...

Hi Cheryl and Dan

what's happening with our answers?
Why are lines interrupted and new lines begin with a single character?
For example here:

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005

Hi Cheryl! :)

Here's a strange one. Someone was able to post a reply to a thread I closed several months ago.

Something allowed them to post and I was notified via email. This is the thread.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005

Denver,

That's actually a new (and requested) feature that allows for corrections and additions to "closed" posts. That way, important information can still get delivered but the (lack of) points assignment does not get counted agaist you. Out of curiosity, can you assign points to the new response?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005

thanks for the info, and nope. can't assign points to it. no pull down for points, just the header that says "Thread closed by author" for the latest response.

The subject in lower one seems to be more appropriate.

Cheryl, Dan,

It look like
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=946905
belongs to Tru64.

And could you also change the word "PRO" in the title to "GRADUATE"? That would make it more to-the-point.

Proost.

Have one on me.

Hi,

yes, please change PRO to GRADUATE and delete my second posting then.
But I just placed it in HP-UX because most congrats threads are here.

Thanks,

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005

Michael - I changed that for you.

Hi Denver - Definitely some forum changes around here. You can close a thread and now if someone replies it does not require you to come back and assign points since the issue was closed. (Hello to Eric too!)

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005

I don't like to get too picky (or jealous), but the etiquette link that Procura posted above does suggest that congratulations threads should be for Wizard and above, and recommends awarding 1 point per reply.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005

I don't realy care *where* the congrats are, as long as I can get more than that silly '1' point for my posts. They take considerable time, and hide a lot of effort, and they get appreciated a lot.

Congrats to the team for the proven speedup!

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - August 2005

Procura, obviously your postings in congratulations threads are an exception, and I wasn't aiming my comment at them, but it seems wrong to get 5 or even 3 points just for saying congratulations to someone (particularly when good answers to technical questions go unrewarded).
