Re: Please Post Forums Issues - December 2005
I encountered the "Time Warp" issue and emailed Dan & Cheryl, just in case they were unaware of the issue.
They asked for information back that leads me to believe they have a handle on the problem, though it seems difficult to solve.
Time warp appears to be a passage into perhaps a backup database, I'm not sure.
I'm sure with patience and feedback on our part it will be resolved.
Clearing the cookies and browser cache seems to help with the inability to post with browsers other than IE.
Prior to clearing browser cache/cookes with Firefox 1.5 the behavior was fairly conistent, usually required a second try for each and every post. After the clearing the problem occurred, but much less often.
Bypassing the obviously out of date forums.itrc.hp.com front page data, there were functional threads and I was able to participate and post for the few minutes I devoted to that task, last evening IST.
Greetings and happy celebrations ahead to all.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - December 2005
How about a forums Hall of Fame for posts that contain exceptionally clear, detailed, complete and correct answers?
HP staff and/or members with a certain amount of points should nominate the posts.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - December 2005
We are working diligently on determining what has caused the recent problems and correcting it.
A lot has changed in the past two years with little impact on performance and availability.
During your absence, we rolled a new architecture upgrade and database in late 2003 that was a marked improvement. In addition, site usage has grown tremendously.
Being technical people, I'm sure you and everyone here understands how software and hardware has its issues. We will always work to deliver a high-availability system.
Personally speaking, I think HP has done a fantastic job of providing and fostering a great community here. This service is not only free but we appreciate our contributors and roll many user-requested features into use here.
Please continue to report issues as they come up. If you can include the date/time when you're seeing problems, it helps the lab pinpoint the issue further. We ask for your patience while we iron this out.
Thanks

The second has only one answer.
Could that be merged into the first stream, so the second can be removed?
Proost.
Have one on me.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - December 2005
Thank you for your response.
I used to tell Shayne Wagley and Jeff Siegle, "If it wasn't good, we wouldn't complain."
I am not oblivious to some of the happenings here during my absence as an active contributer. I helped build and shape this community during its early years, as you are aware, and I never totally ceased to follow it. Certainly improvements have been made but there is more that are needed.
In part, you wrote that you thought that "...HP has done a fantastic job of providing and fostering a great community here. This service is not only free but we appreciate our contributors...".
This is a two-sided argument. As Jeff once said, "When I try to explain the ITRC community to people, I try to explain it like a party.... HP is hosting the party, but ultimately the success of the party depends on the guests (number, quality, etc) that come...[and]...at the end of the day...the success of a community lies with the organizers (at the outset) but ultimately the members themselves."
Jeff had it right. If you want to know how good your party is you ask your guests. I'm sure we both want the party to continue.
I believe that everyone has a right to express their opinion as long as its done politely and professionally. I think thhat this is especially true when there is an active solicitation of input as there is here. You have my email address should you wish to explore my opinions and observations offline.
Regards!
...JRF...
p.s. Shayne Wagley was one of, or "the" earliest Forum administrators -- b.d. -- before Dan.
The comments I quote from Jeff can be read in their entirty here:

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - December 2005
Why is it neccasary in the first place to use javascript for opening links from posts? Why not just link ???
copy and pasting links, shift or middle click on javascript links is just plain annoying.
Enjoy, Have FUN! H.Merijn [ who now considers adjusting his proxy to `fix' the links :) ]

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - December 2005
Firefox workaround.
Click submit.
then click stop.
then click submit again.
I've had a 100% succes rate posting today with that method and Firefox.
I know its dorky, but it works.
What can I say, I'm kinda a dork.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - December 2005
HP Passport sign-in
HP Passport is a single login service that lets you register with HP Passport-enabled Web sites using a single user identifier and password of your choice.
I get that if I go directly to the forums...
But if I sign into itrc.hp.com - then I'm not prompted for the passport - I tried my itrc userid / password - doesn't work...
What gives?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - December 2005
I have a question. Is it possible that when someone wants to start a thread again. He has to close his previous thread or that you may have 5 threads open and when they never submit points the get a warning our a standerd request to submit pionts.
I know it's a bit childish to ask for points but a lot of times the same people ask questions and don't submit pionts.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - December 2005
The Business Forums are moving to a separat elogin service, and this is called HP Passport.
All new web based servicdes are being moved to this method, I believe, and should result in you having just one login for everything to do with HP.
These forums will be moving to tyhe HP Passport login in the not too distant future.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - December 2005
I found the spelling mistake humorous but its best we clarify his question.
threat=thread
Will the HP Passport upgrade deal with my issue concerning User id's and the fact that my points are connected with a US login and my current ITRC search access and login are European?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - December 2005
I just saw the typo.
Another thing i have an HP-pasport login but i lost the password. And of course i change from work in the meantime. So i can't get a new password. Is't that we go from itrc to hp password or the other way around.
