Hi moderators,

Can you correct my poor English in this post where I should have written "achievement" instead of "achivement":

Thanks,

Eric

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005

Somebody has a disk problem on their server.

root@adac1.healthall.com

expects a disk to be at

/dev/dsk/c193t3d6

Its not there.

Someone used my checkhardware.sh script and forgot to change the email address in the script.

If anybody can reach the owner of this system, please do so and post into this thread so this post can be removed by ITRC forums.

Yes, I am thinking about modifying the darn script so it emails a yahoo account, but its posted sixteen gizillion times already in forums.

A minor gripe:
Is it possible to move the and buttons to the left somewhat? Twice I've pressed one or both of these when aiming for the button.

Jan,

Actually, that was my very first thought.. I then looked inside the post at his references to previous years worth of stats, and all of them were listed as 'January', thus I posted.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005

Oh and on the hat discussion, my thought was for the one to be like a Numbus.

The hats have been working their way up into god-hood, the olympian being pretty darn close. But no matter which religion (atleast of those I know about), a diety would normally be depicted with a sun-shining nimbus around, or eminating from them..

Well, that was my thought at least.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005

Stuart,

I do agree with your reasoning about the ordering, but, although being (nearly religuously) non-religous myself, I do understand that on many religions it is considered sacrilage to depict oneself or any human as deity!

I DO think you are right about the nimbus being pretty generic, but I have no intention to offend, especially when the offensiveness can by seen in advance! I rather expect those responsible for the Forums to take the same type of care.

Proost.

A batman head, that made me laugh.

I wouldn't wish to offend anyone, the halo suggestion was just a thought plucked from the air, sort of a starting point really (for me anyway).

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005

Hi everyone

I am using firefox for Internet browsing. When I click the links codded as

javascript.open http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=776760

this links opens in the same window.
If I tried this with IE, this links opens in different window.

Could you correct this error.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005

Also, as a completion of Murat's post, when opening those links in Opera, new window doesn't have an address bar. And I would like one. An addition to Pete's wish list (if he agree).

An other one (I already post this remark) :
In french version, link at bottom-center of all pages says "signifie quec" instead of "signifie que". This is just cosmetics, but I don't think it should take long to modify :)

Fred

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005

Hi Cheryl,

I have a long borne wish concerning formatting of replies to threads.
Would it be possible to allow/obey the placing of a few markup tags in ones replies?
Especially something similar to the HTML
 tag.
When for instance I post a thread because I seek for help with some configuration or command it often happens that responders want me to post the output from the OS of these so that they can better see what the problem is, and where I went wrong.
When I paste these dumps in the regular textarea as a result all gets very cluttered because all whitespace is squeezed to a single character.
This sometimes makes very difficult to distinguish the record fields at first sight, and it's simply ugly.
I know that I could attach these as a file in a multipart POST.
But this is pretty cumbersome as it forces me to transfer the files containing the Unix command/config dumps first to my Windoze PC.
Using the textarea is much more straight forward with a mark and paste.
I'm not asking for silly stuff like DHTML or JavaScript and the like, but simply something similar to
 or

Another nuisance still is the webserver's reachability/servicing, especially at Fridays.
I presume you are doing some sort of load ballancing between multiple webservers
but this could be improved.
Do you have high hit rates/loads on Fridays?
I could imagine because most of my GETs are timed out.
I think people have more time to spend in the ITRC forums when weekend aproaches.
In German we have the saying:
"Am Freitag ab Eins, macht jeder Seins"
which could losely be translated to
"On Fridays past One, private stuff is done"

Have nice weekend

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005

Hi everybody.

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=793765

If I had closed this thread as soon as I received a 10-point answer I would have ended up with incorrect entries in the kernel!

I would like to back up Pete Randall's request to remove the "close thread" feature: if it isn't going to be removed I would urge all users to be very cautious about closing threads. Suffice to say, it's a feature I don't intend using in future.

Second point: I raised that thread because of a document on HP's website that contains two sentences that contradict each other. Who do I contact to get that document corrected?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005

Hi Mark,

regarding your second point...

Is there a feedback link at the bottom of the page with the errors? You can report it through there, alternatively post the link here and we'll check into it for you,

Thanks,

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005

FIRST TOPIC: THREAD CLOSING
I like the thread closing but also agree it shouldnt float to the top.

Because some people give bunnies away on every response, I still read the bunny marked threads to see if I can help (some people give bunnies before testing the solution) so I liked the closed threads cuz I know there is nothing to be done on it but read and learn.

SECOND TOPIC: PEOPLE WHO DONT POST POINTS
Like a lot of people, it can be frustrating when you work a long time on a solution and the person posts no points.

How about a picture of a guy with his finger and his thumb in the shape of an L on his forehead for people who give points on less then half the replies and have had at least 50 total replies :-)
