Antonio, Patrick, Deoncia -
Thanks - We got that removed yesterday.

As far as the performance issue goes, please note that there have been ongoing critical meetings on the issue. Dan is one very busy man! Please be patient with us. We hope to have it addressed soon.

Hi All,

As you have seen, we're experiencing problems with the forums. We are working on this now and hope to find a resolution soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Ron,

I get that error fairly often. I believe you can just click your browser 'back' button, and have your data entry form (re) presented. Then just select the entire text with and to copy to the windows clipboard. Then paste it somewhere.

I have never lost data in a case like this. So I am confused about your post. You have extensive windows experience, and I should not be giving you windows pointers?

Totally confused,

:-) Jay

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Jay,

this does not work always. I have had it more than once that after goinf back one page the text was gone. As Ron said after carefully creating a long post. You would have to copy before trying to send or create the text in a text editor and then copy it to the form.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

If you're losing text by going Back in your browser, that could be the browser setting:
Tools > Internet Options, Temporary Internet Files > Settings "Check for new version of stored pages". I think if you have this set to Every visit to page or Automatic, you might lose your test. I have mine set to never and Back never loses my text.

Cut and Paste is a good workaround though.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

I think Cheryl might be on to something here. I have noticed the browser setting she refers to, but I have never changed it from the default.

On my various Windows XP systems, I run both Mozilla and IE (current version of each browser).

All I can say is, I have never lost data, trying to submit to the Forums. The Back button of both browsers always displays my data entry form. At this point, I can *usually* just click submit, and my reply is accepted immediately, with the appropriate system acknowledgement. Sometimes, however, the second submit attempt is not accepted. (same error as first attempt.)

Perhaps this problem only affects those running HP-UX? (after all, this IS HP-UX General.)

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

The data loss, I've never experienced, only when the system running the browser locked and that does not count.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Cheryl,

It is set to at every start of IE and it does not happen always just when you do not expect it any more and you wrote a lot of text in a hurry!

Jay,

Nope - not on HP-UX. I'm running Netscape 7.0 on HP-UX 11i and have never lost text when using the back button.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Jay,

I already experienced losing content of my post in a back/next operation, but that was when using an old opera v6 on windows 2000. Since, I've migrate to v7, and it never happened again. It's more probably a browser problem, as long as I never changed OS.

I never managed to know why and when it happens. All I could suggest is to try an other browser (Opera runs really fine for me, both on linux and win2000).

Fred

Jay said: "Perhaps this problem only affects those running HP-UX? (after all, this IS HP-UX General.) "

Which brings up another sore point. Why is this thread in HPUX General? This is no longer a forum just for HPUX. It really ought to be in

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/categoryhome.do?categoryId=296

since it applies to the whole forum.

Going back to my original complaint I expect if I told my browser not to check for a new page every time that it might not eat the page when I get the error but when it works it doesn't eat the page. I can back up two pages and all of my typing is still there. It is only when it errors out that it eats it. That's why I suspect there is something about the error (or the message) that causes the typing to disappear. I am on a fast link so checking every time insures that I have the latest page without having to refresh to make sure.

By the way I am running IE 6.0 SP1 with all patches on Win2k SP4.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

I think there was a diagnosis attempt that perhaps there is an issue with browsers run on hp-ux.

This is certainly not true after a careful look at the reports this month.

I have noticed that .ws websites don't resolve and load on mozilla 1.4 and 1.6 with 11i v1. Thats a problem since one of Merijn's mirrors ins on a .ws website.

Not speaking for HP, but I'd surmise this thread is here because among the general threads this one has the most eyes, its the most popular one on this side of the house.

Putting it in the forums general section which is not often looked at would be like burying it.

I've seen great improvement in the way forums reacts to different browsers and say, thanks for your work, HP folks, please keep trying until every day is production grade perfect.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Jan van den Ende suggested, re. a new hat for 50,000 points:
> how about a real, original Victorian English bowler hat?

> Maybe accompanied by the title "His Distinguished ITRC Lordship"

I like it, but in that case, a top hat might fit the bill, rather than a bowler (bowlers would be worn by servants, and latterly City gents, rather than lords, though they were originally protective headgear for riding, I believe).

But then, a Lord is not (usually) superior to Royalty.

What about Emperor?

Or, how about a different tack, Superhero?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Or maybe Yoda's head... But it would need a partnership between HP and Lucas Entertainment :)

Best thing would be to ask Clay himself on what hat he would like to have.

... Maybe this post is not so "Forum Issues" related ;)

I agree with Pete. That thread should be removed. This is not a job board.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Once again a thread points out the need for forums section to exhange such information.

The thread needs to go:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=742900

Too bad its not anywhere I want to work.

Have we ever considered creating a section for this so it doesn't clutter the technical sections?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Hi SEP,

I'd rather *not* see a section devoted to employment. There are plenty of other places on the web devoted to those opportunities. I don't see any real benefit to HP for hosting such an area, and it would probably create more problems [more traffic, just what we need :-)] than benefits. Besides that, I really don't want my employer to look at such a section on here and say, "Oh, are you looking for a job?"

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

I agree with John on this one. I don't think the HP Forums can be 'one stop shopping' (all things to all people). Too many companies get away from their core competency (pardon my language) and lose their path and focus, given limited resources.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for that, we can't move messages to the Business Support Forums at the moment (where there's a dedicated Omnibook Category). So I've posted a link to it for the Author,

Cheers,

Gary
