Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Using this site in french, at the bottom of each page is a mention :
"l'utilisation de ce site signifie quec vous en acceptez les conditions"

There's a misspell in this sentence : it is "que" and not "quec".

This is pure cosmetic, but now that I have noticed, it will haunt me until it's repaired :)

Fred

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

This thread :
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=744497
could be removed. It has no interest of any kind, and is only due to a very bad week, and my eyes no longer opened :(

Note that it made me discovered the new functionnality of chosing wether to set a bunny or not when closing a thread. Really nice :)

Fred

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Hi Dan et al,

Is there any chance of reconsidering the bunny appearing when the author checks the 'problem solved' checkbox? Lately, I have solved a few problems, the author admits that I have solved the problem, says 'thanks' and closes the thread without assigning points. One time the author actually said he was assigning points in the 'close thread' reply, but no points were assigned.

It is like having a door slammed in one's face.

I would like to only have a bunny assigned when >7 points were assigned, like it used to be.

I know this has been mentioned before. I would like to add my strong objection to this new bunny policy.

Thanks for letting me vent. One of these happened just now, and I am still a little upset about it.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

After driving home in the rain and mulling this over, I would like to see an additional icon, which would indicate 'problem solved-no points assigned.' The bunny would indicate 'problem solved-points assigned.'

To have the bunny be attached to a 'pointless' thread is just wrong on its face, misleading, and tends to support those who take advantage of our advice, but can't be bothered to assign points.

I have a few ideas about the new icon, but I think I'll just leave that to one's imagination.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Jay,

As I said in my preceding post, what we were asking for has been implemented. I had to close a thread nobody answered. When closing, I had the possibility to say wether or not I had found an answer for my question. I didn't click. No Bunny.

So, if you see such a case recently, it may mean that text for the option is not explixit enough or that people do not really understand what it mean...

And so, new request may be to have a more explicit label for the option. It may be something like "I have found a magical answer for this problem" or something like that...
Anyway, I maintain the fact that closing a thread, people should be warned really explicitly they must assign points.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

And it finaly happened to me ! I have 125 point assignements to 124 answers :)

I had 125 for 125 for some time, and removing the thread I asked for substract a point to the answers count.

Fred

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

I must protest - a few test messages were bad enough but flooding us with them is downright disturbing. Could someone clean these up and see if they can be stopped, please?

Thanks, 'soon to be King Fred',

I am also looking at becoming Royalty, hopefully sometime before the holidays.

I get a bit sensitive (to freeloaders) with a pending promotion.

Happy Weekend to All!

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Hi,

and again the HP-UX forum is cluttered with senseless threads.
My suggestion would be:
Do not just grant access to anyone who registers. Send an email with a link in form of a gif which the prospect user has to use to activate the account. This should prevent some automatic attacks.

greetings,

Michael

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

My sometimes I an appear crabby. Its the pain from an ankle injury and nothing personal.

I have been having a hard time accessing my profile. I click my name and nothing happens, sometimes six or seven times.

The reason this is important is my favorites include lots of procedures that I cut and past into posts to help people. Any idea why this is? Anyone else experiencing this?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Once again the forums are full of test messages.

I have assumed this is part of testing to improve the forums. Great, please make sure whomever does this cleans up when done.

I noted earlier this was a test for the point imbalance issue. That was in one of the posts.

Would it hurt if these tests were in the general section or some less popular part of the forums?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

SEP,

I would suggest to do these tests in the questions about forum forum.
I had the impression that someone found a way to automatically register and clutter the forum.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Hi Dan et al,

Is there a need for a 'misc' thread in this forum? For instance, Ron Kinner has recently joined the 5-digit club. I have started a congrats thread for him in the winXP forum:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=746437

I'm sure there are HP-UX people who will want to contribute to the thread. I have been wondering about the best way to make them aware of it.

I envision the 'misc' thread being used for announcements like this.

:-) Jay

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - November/December 2004

Pete, Michael, SEP

I have alerted Dan to these annoying test threads, and have recommended that if they really need to do these, then the forum to be used should be the Questions Regarding ITRC Forums.
I have also deleted these threads to try to tidy up the HP-UX forum.
