Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

Someone please whack my blank thread.

I was using mozilla on Linux and had just started to type Rita's name when i was on the award points screen.

I can only surmise a browser flaw. Even if mozilla is not supported itrc probably should not do that.

I did not hit enter.

SEP,

Yeah, right. It was the browser. Just remember, friends don't let friends drink and post on the ITRC. ;)

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

Hi Dan,

Not sure if you saw this in the June/July thread(Apologies if you have) but would it be possible when viewing "questions with no replies" to filter out all the questions that have been moved to other sections? I find that usually these threads actually have replies when you follow the link.

Just a thought,

Dan,

what happened here?
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=673565

moving twice within the same forum from "disk array" to "disk array"?

? :-^)

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

I have been having abnormally slow response to Forum page loading - up to 10 minutes sometimes to load a page!

This has been happening all week (though the 10 minute one just today)....

Other ITRC pages load fine...

Time to reboot the Forum server maybe?

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

Michael, The messages were caused by a message having been moved from and back to the same category.

This is done by accident in most cases. I know I have fat-fingered a move before.

We need an enhancement request to kill the "question moved" message when a thread is moved from and back to the same category.

Cheryl,

what about ignoring such a request to move within the same category? :-)

Not a big issue at all... just something to ponder...
The bunny did not show up for this thread, even though 10 points were awarded?

Enjoy!

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

Stuart, thanks for pointing out the thread that needed to be removed.

SEP, thanks for the pointers on moving and deleting.

Willem, thanks for the suggestion. Working with the Tru64 team to figure out if this is viable.

Peter, good idea. I can add this to the list of things to get done, it just needs to bump up the priority list to get out. Hang in there.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

Note on my questions posted list there is now a thread named null.

Can't click in. Perhaps this is due to upgrades.

A pleasant weekend to you.

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

Just been doing some not asked for feature testing.

Nice job on the close thread option. Also a good touch that lets me as the author turn it back on.

I tip my black hat, which was how people found me at HP World to the developers that worked hard to put these features into production.

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

Thank you Steven - I think if you read the contents of the link (you may have to cut and paste) it is not quite what you explain.

Furthermore I appreciate what you say about links but if you click on the link it appears to refer to a HP thread. My understanding of the HP sites is that "Any use of these materials on any other website or networked computer environment for any purpose is prohibited.". This provision is contained in the link:-

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/termsofuse.html

I trust that clarifies the position relating to what are HP products and I am pleased to warmly reciprocate your salutation.

I am just drawing attention to any infringement of the rights of HP in its products.

Now that the need no longer exists, would one of you moderators be so kind as to edit out my phone number from this thread (in the Aug 17 entry):

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

Hi,

Thank you and the team for the updates from last weekend, great improvements.

Just found something peculiar, a bunny came up for this thread but there are no answers with 8 or more points ?

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

RJ -
No bug. A bunny appears because the thread was closed by the author. Notice the lock on the post as well.

He unfortunately did not assign any points (yet) to those who were kind enough to assist.

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

But Cheryl, the description for the bunny says "magical answer Message with a response that solved the author's question". The bunny is supposed to indicate which response solved the problem. A person could close a thread just because they're tired of getting answers that don't help at all.

Closing a thread should not put a bunny on it!

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

I agree with Pete - we don't need two symbols to indicate closure: the lock on its own will do.

Hi Cheryl,

I have to agree with Pete and Mark, this should be a bug.

I agree with you all. The bunny should not be there unless the solution(s) have been awarded points.

Re: Please post your forums issues - August 2004

1. IMHO there should be no bunny for closed threads without a *real* bunny. That would completely defeat the purpose
2. Threads that are closed should *not* (I repeat: should *NOT*) move up the stack. i.o.w. they should not be date-touched so they apear in front of the rest
