Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

UPDATE: Please go to the new thread for September at:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0xd28e5220af9bd5118ff10090279cd0f9,00.html.

Hi Everyone,

This is the second installment of this thread, as the previous one was getting a bit long. All the feedback from that thread has been documented.

Again, please inform me regarding any issues you experience while using the Forums. Please include the URLs from your browser associated with error messages (along with the date and time the error occurred).

I thank you for all your previous feedback, and look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

I had a problem earlier today when I was trying to respond to a issue on the forum and if I replied and attached a file I failed to go to the next screen but if I just replied to the issue it went to the next screen just fine. ( the attachment was only 384K )

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Hi Dan,
This is new Report 8/2. I have not yet seen solution from my previous 7/2 issue.
Here what I post on (7/2)
Hi Dan,
Whenever we press submit button it gives us conformation page. At the end of that page we have only one option to go to the forums > hp-ux > category.

Can we add one more URL on that page so we can go back to the forums > hp-ux.

New Suggestion:
When we go to our profile we do have "recent responses" and "solutions" column. If I can see column "Questions ask" (List of questions I have asked on this forum) That will be great.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Hi Sachin,

Thanks for your second suggestion. Regarding your first message posted on the 7/2 thread, I have added it to our tracking tool. I can't confirm whether it will be integrated into a next release or patch anytime soon, but it is documented for developers.

Thanks again for your input.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Hi Dan,

I am still receiving the odd error 404 message
when I post a reply, particularly if you have
the response screen open for a few minutes. It
seems to be far easier to paste it from your PC
notepad or something than to type direct onto
the response screen.

On the profile screen I would like the ability
to be able to see more than just the last five
responses, which brings me to the point there
must be an easier way to see your profile other than to go into a post that has been submitted and click on your response.

I also agree with Sachin's suggestion(s) also.

Regards
-Michael

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Hi
Even though I am logged in European zone when I try to reply or start a new thread I am prompted to
login and this time the prompt is for Amercia/Asia pacific. So I have to move back to my zone and
login again.
and sometimes after pressing submit, i get 404 object not found error.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Hi Dan,

1. May we have a more large response editBox ( to avoid scrolling).
2. When we answer a question, may we have the question at the top of the response window.

Thanks alot.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

I have had the same problem as Praveen in the past, and still see it now and again.. I reported it to Laurent a while back.
For new users, as I was once!,created an accound on the American site first, because that's where the itrc brough me first, after that I was sent to Europe and created a new account there (not knowing better) after that, I thought I forgot/lost my password because of problems logining in and created another account which I now use all the time..
for new users you can imagine that this would create confusion and difficulty.. especially when certain links in questions are linking to us-support.itrc or europe-support.itrc and a login is required to follow the link......

Later,
Bill

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

I am still having the same problem every morning.
I can get to the ITRC Forums homepage but,
It will not let me login....this morning I got the No Data Available Contact System Administrator gray box. Now sometimes in past I get the scsi error...when trying to get logged in.

If I wait until sometime after 8:30am, I generally can then get in...but most times if I try to login in earlier than that I can't get logged in. I'm USA - EST Zone.

Thanks,
Rita

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

hi,
I strongly agree with Magdi. It would be very helpfull to be able to see the question when we are replying. I often copy the original question to the answer box (and sometimes forget to remove it again :( ), or open another window to answer.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

This noon, when I was trying to post a message, I got a error message which said "there is no page display", at the same time, the logo at the left corner became from "Welcome, Shawn Peng" to "Welcome ( )", five minutes, I tried again, it was fine. I don't know what is the problem, hope the message is useful for you.

Have a nice long weekend!

I usually try to check in here early in the morning between 6:30 and 8:30 Eastern and I often experience the same problems as Rita and Shawn have listed. Very often I can read but not reply to anything.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Hello Dan,

today I got occasionally re-login requests, but was still
running the same netscape session with cookies set on!
The time frame was about 21:00h -23:00h UTC-1.

Oh, and for having read a lot of postings without CRs
in the text: Can we have the widht and height of the
"reply" dialog be set bigger (wider, heigher, more :-)?
But I would love to have the output of the postings with
a fixed width window - especially when some postings
are quite long, but without any internal CRs (I am lazy
and hate that horizontal scrolling).

TIA,
Wodisch

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Hello again,

something else I would like to be changed:
Every time I "search" I have to re-login!

Why?
Should we not use the search facility??? ;-)
Is that the reason why so many postings ask for
FAQs that have already been answered?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Hi Dan,

For a time today could not login.... from about 12:30 - 14:30 Sydney time. On one attempt that I tried to reply to a post without having been logged in I got this message instead of the login screen.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Hello Dan,

its me again :-)
Today I had to re-login for about ten times - just for
every single "reply" between 11:30h and 12:20h UTC
aproximately... :-(

And Sarah started a thread about assigne points,
where I had something I would like the forums to have:

>I do agree with the others that the most important
>reason to assign points is to show the relevance and
>correctness of the answers. But from my own vast
>experience of 2 (two, really ;-) questions posted in the
>past, I seem to remember that I was NOT automagically
>notified when somebody posted an answer - that
>should be changed. And it might be reasonable to send
>emails from the forum to those of us having
>"un-pointed" replies in their "questions".
>Perhaps we need some "official" was to "close" the
>questions, but sometimes a question serves for quite
>a long time as a place for a discussion - and I do like
>that!

So, can we have
- the bigger reply box (still insisting on it, please!!!)
- questioners are "notified" automatically upon replies
to their question
- reminders, perhaps once a week, about "open" or
"unpointed" replies
- horizontally restricted "boxes" containing the replies
- in your "profiles" a list of the questions we have issued,
like we do have for the "recent responses" and the
"solutions" - that could be a substitute for the second
point in this list

TIA,
Wodisch

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

I had problems with "welcome, () ...) " a couple of weeks back, but not since then.

I was wondering if it would be possible to increase the size of the box used to type in questions and replies from the current 2*3 to a more decent size?

Thanks,

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Hi,

I've got a quick forum gripe:- The forum site insists on reloading in my browser (the complete page) when ever I touch the window (ie a move or increase / decrease in size) which can be very annoying when the forum is busy as it is very slow. I don't know wether anyone else has the trouble or if it's a feature of Netscape browser or our slow internet connection ?!?!

Best regards,

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Hello All,

Thanks again for your always excellent input. Regarding the most recent postings:

1. Wodisch, a larger reply box is in the works. Users currently have the option to choose to be notified when reply to their question is posted -- implementing an auto notify needs to be reviewed as some may prefer not to be notified automatically (although a great reminder for assigning points!). A list of questions you've posted is high on our list to enhancements.

2. Nabeel, the missing ()welcome message was related to a server/database issue that was corrected. A larger reply/question box is in the works.

3. Charles, I can't recreate your issue at my end. I can resize my IE browser in multiple directions with no page reloads occurring.

4. Bill, thanks -- caught that one this morning and it is being corrected.

Best Regards,
Dan

Every now and again, I get the demon 'unable to display page' message. Usually, I have to wait hours before I can get into where I want to go, (which is usually replying to, or posting.)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues! (8/2)

Dan,

I just got this error after replying to a post and doing a refresh in IE:

Error processing SSI file '/cm/FamilyHomeContent/1,1152,LoggedIn!117,00.html'

Also, when I'm browsing through Netscape on my Linux laptop I have to login again when I go to search, and sometimes after I post replies.
