Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Hi Adam,

If you are referring to notices to replies of threads that you are subscribed to, that system is working. Are you not receiving notices to replies? For instance, if you are subscribed to this thread, you should get an email due to this message post. You also may want to verify the email that is registered with the ITRC to ensure it is the one that you are currently using.

PS: to receive the daily email nocices, go to your forums private profile at http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/EditProfile/1,,,00.html and click-submit the checkboxes under "areas of interest".

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Yeah, I'm better than I suspected...
I could actually answer this question myself, but I wanted to do it public in case anyone else is interested... ;)

But seriously:

Yes Dan, I'm speaking about these. My e-mail is working, as I did 'recover lost password' procedure recently and it worked.

But I was thinking - couldn't it just be recognized as SPAM somewhere and deleted? Just an idea, but would explain it...

Good luck
Adam

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Adam,

That is a good question. I think it is a possibility. If you want to set your email preferences to accept the forums address, it is itrc_forums1@hp.com. You may also need to talk to your mail server provider.

Thanks,

Well - it just happened again:

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Couple of suggestions (not issues) -

1. When replying, is it possible to open a new window so that all responses can be seen and not only the 'subject question' ?

2. When the number of replies are large, it takes longer to load that message. Is it possible to have multiple pages in that case so that the page loads faster?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Dan

I spend a fair amount of time at the forums everyday and all the time my browser windows are open and refreshed quite frequently.

when i close the IE windows at the end of the day, they usually crash and an error report is automatically generated, with the threatening 'send to Microsoft' and 'Don't send to Microsoft' Options. this happens only with the windows that I have used to access the forums site.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

For some reason ITRC was quite slow for about 1 hour, then all of a sudden it is back to normal. Must be spooky ...

BTW Dan, The link for the successes thread from http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/

still points to the March post not April.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Pete, thanks for the 'field' report. The support team is working on this issue. They did some things yesterday that improved the response time, but still a few periods of slowndowns. Hope to have this corrected full time soon.

Micheal, thanks for the tip...link is updated.

Kellogg team...will consider these ideas.

All others, appreciate the feedback.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Dan,

With regards to email notifies.

When I post to my own threads sometimes the email hits before the post finishes posting.

Could these notify issues be due to the mx records/dns and mail restrictions in the ships of those that aren't getting emails? Are notify emails geting bounced? Surely someone could check that.

Sorry to make so many posts. My mind has slipped into stream of consciousness mode. Feel free to zero point this one.

Hi Dan

upon repeated request "404 objects not found" error still exists. So it's better live with it rather than posting the same stuff every month.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Dan,

I am able to access the forums.itrc.hp.com site thro' the hp internal network and my response times are pretty good - i have configured my browser to not contact the proxy server for addresses beginning with *.itrc.hp.com. but when i reply to a particular post and click on submit, the submit does not take place. this happens only when i have set the browser as above to ignore *.itrc.hp.com for lookups. if however it is set to ignore forums.itrc.hp.com, then the submit happens.

clicking on the submit button posts the data to a site http://www2.itrc.hp.com/... - (i don't know the full url) and that url is not accessible thro' the internal network. could you please change this such that when accessed thro' the internal network, the submits are made to the hp internal url of the same machine above. that shouldn't be too difficult i guess using javascript.

Dan,

Getting a weird happening.
I reply to a question, press submit, the world thing turns a bit (IE 5) then stops. I still have the answer on the screen. I hit back & refresh, and my answer was posted.

Dan,

I know I (and others) have hit you on several occasions about response time issues, but this morning was what I would call extreme. Please see the attached screen shot to totally understand what I am referring to.

Is your team making any forward progress on this?

PS. The time stamp on the bottom is in Central USA.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Hi Dan

During weekend I've received somewhat 20 'notify me' e-mails, all from one thread, that was last touched on Friday.

I don't get it.
If it was recongized as SPAM somwhere why was it buffered? I didn't complain about it to me e-mail provider.

Internet... It lives its own life... ;)

Good luck

For conservation of resources, why don't we suppress the "New HP Forum Discussions for ..." e-mails when there isn't any new discussion. Feel free to suppress categories where there isn't discussion as well.

(Generally on the weekends we get a New ... e-mail that's got little or no actionable info):

Not sure this is the right place for this.

New Tru-64 forum, fantastic. One small gripe, it is deathly slow. It takes twice as long as the hpux one to load the page.

is flooding the forum with automated test messages:

If this is legitimate HP testing, isn't there a more appropriate place for it? If not, could something please be done about it?
