Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Hi Dan,

I just found out by accident that pressing the Escape key while entering text into the reply box will cause ALL of your text to disappear, the same as if you click on the Clear button at the bottom of the screen. Not a very nice thing for a tired old man like me who has been messing around in vi all day and then I hit the Esc key in a reply. Oops. :)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

SEP,

Ref: Off topic.

I would be happy to show you the whole pic and even attach it to this forum if it weren???t for one small issue.

I got it off of the Web Shots web site and they don???t DL anything to you in a ???standard??? format. The best I can offer is to do yet another screen shot with nothing but the background. That particular BG is also on a machine that I don???t access on a daily basis as well, so it could be a few days.

Not the best thought in the world, but better than nothing???

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

John (Poff),

As far as I know, the Escape key is handled by your web-browser, i.e. there is nothing that the webserver/Forums can do about that.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

John...I think Frank is correct. The 'esc' key clear is not a 'forums function', but a browser feature.

Thanks,

I can confirm: Netscape 7.0 running on HP-UX 11i does NOT exhibit the =clear key behaviour.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Dan, this submit button problem is driving me crazy! I accidently submitted a response 4 times to a question just now because my browser didn't do anything after the 2nd click of the submit.

I also can't get to the search pages. I hit search, my browser 'thinks' for a minute, then stops. This happens on both my desktop and my laptop. (Not that it means all that much)

Am I just a lone voice in the wilderness? Should I install and try a different browser? Should I try reinstalling my machine? (I am a fan of using the biggest hammer when it comes to windows...) I am planning on a reinstall sometime this year anyway...

Thanks

John

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Dan,

Isn???t it about time for a new thread for May, 2003?

Anyway, since there isn???t one yet, I will just add on to this one.

Please see the attached jpg for the error I received just moments ago. This is a terrible way to start a new month ;-(

Darn John, that picture looked so horrible well-known, that it took me 5 F5's to realize it was a JPG, and not a real page :/

I gave up waiting for this page to load 30 minutes ago (11:30 AM central 5/1/03) and went to lunch.

It was back when I came back from lunch.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Please...Please...Please
show some patience people. Hit the Submit button once and WAIT.
I know, I know, appears nothing is happening - the Icon doesn't twirl and all. BUT if you just wait a minute or two, you'll get the acknowledgement. It's just slow system response or network congestion.
The forum pages & threads are really starting to get stuffed with multiple posts & answers.
And don't forget about the people who now have to assign points 2-3 times more than they should. Or the forum staff who have to weed out the dupes.
So please just give it time.

Thx,
Jeff (OK, I'm off the soapbox now)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Dan,

On top of the usual morning slowdowns, performance this afternoon has come to a virtual halt. An attempt to reload the main page took 190 seconds to come up with an "SSI" error. It took 64 seconds to open this thread. We're basically at a standstill here.

There have also been an exceptional number of multiple submissions today, probably because of the slowdowns. IE doesn't seem to give any indication that something is indeed going on (like Netscape does with it's hourglass), so people must be hitting submit again.

Big problems with 404 errors. Embarassing duplicate posts.

Any way to delete the dups?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Ok Steven, I get the idea. ;)

Everyone, I apologize for the performance issue we've seen lately. We haven't been able to pin down a reason, although we are working on it daily.

As Jeff points out, submitting a message takes only ONE click even though the browser doesn't provide a status. Just need to hang in there for some time and it will eventually be submitted. This will hopefully go away once the perf. issue is resolved.

Thanks,
Dan

See the previous post about 1 click - even if the browser doesn't indicate success.

As noticed, I have 3 posts on the same subject.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

I can't read the forums from
Netscape Communicator 4.7
on HP-UX 10.20. They work
OK when I read them from
a Windows machine using
Communicator 4.79.

From HP-UX, when I'm on the
top level forum page http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/1,,,00.html
and I click on the HP-UX
forum link
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/FamilyHome/1,,117,00.html
I get a "404 Object Not
Found" error. This
started occurring for me
on Mon Apr 28.

These forums, you can nuke all of my posts I was just testing anyway, trying to figure if my browser was broken.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2003

Hi Steven P:

With all due respect, would you please enlighten us as to the *HP-UX significance* of the last two links you posted, above? How do they relate to HP-UX and/or Forum Issues?

Regards!
