Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Olympian Pete, easy. just enter the *literal* text '$ENV{COLUMNS}' in the seach box, and see what shows up. Now go to http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x992d7af22431ae41b48de933950eccad,00.html or one of the references posted in there to see that there are more than one message(s) that would have fit that search criterium

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Merijn,

Entering that string in the search box gives me two results, one of which is the thread you referenced, the other is:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x42e2cdec06f1d61190050090279cd0f9,00.html

Maybe something to do with the European search engine?

I'm afraid this one will have to be your personal monthly rant.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

I enterered '$ENV{COLUMNS}' in the quick search box in this thread and it got me to (the *very* wrong - see complaint 1) http://us.itrc.hp.com/emse/bin/doc.pl?searchtext=%24ENV%7BCOLUMNS%7D&from=forums&hpl=1&todo=search&searchcriteria=allwords&searchcategory=ALL&rn=25&presort=rank&submit.x=0&submit.y=0 [ I DO NOT WANT TO BE LINKED TO A US SITE WHEN I HAVE A EUROPEAN ID!!!!! ] which completely defeats the purpose of a `quick' search.

http://us-support.external.hp.com/emse/bin/doc.pl/distrib_redir=0+1062067007|*?rn=25&searchcategory=ALL&hpl=1&from=forums&todo=search&searchcriteria=allwords&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&searchtext=%2524ENV%257BCOLUMNS%257D&presort=rank gives me:

http://europe-support.external.hp.com/emse/bin/doc.pl/sid=97a7286e1abdffd042/screen=emseHome/distrib_redir=0+1062067204|*?rn=25&searchcategory=ALL&hpl=1&from=forums&todo=search&searchcriteria=allwords&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&searchtext=%2524ENV%257BCOLUMNS%257D&presort=rank with '%24ENV%7BCOLUMNS%7D' in the seach box, and (of course) no matches.

Changing that to '$ENV{COLUMNS}' [ my default option is "all words" and [v] ITRC forums ] I now indeed get two links (I'm sure this was broken some time ago), but it's for sure not a *fast* search.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

The long links in my last post caused - at last - to use more than the complete width of the browser window. One more argument to go for width="100%".

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Hi Danno,

Was there network trouble today?
I've noticed a couple posts I made today that are not in the threads even though I waited & got the "Thanks for the post" reply.
One in the morning & one in the afternoon Central time.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

For one time i wish to say thank you to those who work "under the net":
- my dirty thread was clean almost immediatly
- when i posted an excessive long cut&paste (my fault) it has been cutted and, what i appreciate over all, there is a small notice that it has been cut due to forum policies
- i started a new thread, had a reply and my e-mail arrived immediatly.

Thank you all for the effort !

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Dan (et all),

I don't even know if this is possible but I though it couldn't hurt to ask. I've got 10 points in the "printing and digital imaging" category of the "business and customer discussion groups". They don't count towards my ITRC total and create ongoing confusion with Merijn's statistics. Could those two responses of mine be made to disappear?

I'd appreciate it!

Pete

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Assigning points is almost an exercise in futility. Pressing "submit" results in nothing 90% of the time. As I continue to press, will get a blank window with "Done" listed in the bottom after pressing "submit" 20 times. If I return to the message, no points a assigned.

I found an old thread I posted a few months back and wanted to assign points to the "stragglers" replies. I gave up after a half hour of trying.

Now I see why many people don't assign points - sometimes it's next to impossible!

==========================

In trying to reply to this thread, I had to hit "reply" multiple times. Again I get a blank screen. I almost didn't post this reply due to these difficulties.

Will try to submit this reply. If it doesn't go through, I'm outta here for the day.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Pursuant to my last request to have my "business customer discussion groups" answers (and points) purged:

I managed to track down one of them -
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x04599c196a4bd71190080090279cd0f9,00.html

The other is supposedly under "printing and digital imaging", "digital printing press". I went through all 12 responses to the 8 questions in that category without seeing my name once. I'd really like to see that one purged. I might also mention that I saw only one of the names of the top 10 users in this category in any of the questions. The other 9 of the top 10 are in the same boat I am. They've got points in questions that aren't there.

Could this please be cleaned up?

Thanks,

Pete

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Hi,

Toms complaint confirms what I suspected. The points are lost, when you return to the message.
When you return to the forums main category, I never had problems.
Folks I think we are about to hunt this bug down....
Please check if your points stay alive if you return to the forum after you submitted your points and if they disappear if you return to the message after submit of assignment !!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - August 2003!

Tom,

When you report these problems, you should include the Browser version and time of day.

There is an ongoing problem with itrc at 12:30-1:00 a.m. Central. Answers post slowly if at all, 404 errors, its impossible to assign points.

Its like an alarm clock saying, "STEVE, GO TO BED!"

If your issue falls into this window, bad timing. If you aren't using one of the "recommended"(HA!) browswers you might try one of them.

I've also had similar problems to you when my Internet router or connection started to freak out.

And Pete, yet one more I remember only while posting graphs: ITRC does not accept/recognize PNG images as attachments, so I'm forced to do the graphs in JPG
