Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Hi Everybody,

As we enter into the second month of 2002, I'd like to ask you to report any issues you encounter while using the ITRC Forums during the month of February.

As this is an ongoing thread, all the feedback from the previous months has been documented.

If reporting operating errors, please include URLs from your browser associated with error messages, and please include the date and time the errors occur.

You can also post your forums **successes** at:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x09cca2db8513d6118ff40090279cd0f9,00.html

Thanks go to those of you for your past feedback!

Best regards,

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Hi Dan & Jeff:

Instead of a problem report, here's a "Thanks!" for the recent *improvements* in the search engine(s) and the overall performance of the Forum. The site has shown a much more consistent, faster response time than I've seen it in a very long time.

With my warmest regards!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply and the "re-positioning" of the thread. The developers and the support teams have really been working hard to make this continue to be the best forums site available. Their hard work is showing.

Keep up the great contributions!a

Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Hi Dan,

I was just trying to access

IT resource center forums > hp-ux

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/FamilyHome/1,,117,00.html

and I can only see one posting unlike 5 mins ago when I can see the usual long list of postings.

IT resource center forums > hp-ux > general

lists out fine for me.

For your notice. Regards.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Hi Dan,

It appears to be back to normal. Perhaps I happen to access the page while postings on the pages were being shuffled and "pushed" to the back.

Regards.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Hi,

I do sometimes get the message "not logged on" when I want to reply to a thread (when I am logged on). I do not know the exact message, but I will put it in next time it happens.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

JR - what do you mean it's not january? You mean I have to go into february? Just my dumb luck ;-)

Dan, the site kicks butt, and you and your people are doing a great job! One thing I would like to see is when you move a message, change the category to "moved to xxxxx". Tell the people to keep up the great work!!!!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Hi John,

Regarding the daily emails -- I met with the lead of the developer team yesterday, and I'm meeting with them again today. The issue is on top of the list -- not sure what is involved to get the fix done, so I can't comment on an ETA, but I can tell you it is foremost in our mind to get it resolved. Please let your boss know we are working on it, and I'll keep you abreast of the progress.

Thanks for asking!

Regards,
Dan

PS:

Harry d Brown: thanks for the suggestion, this is something I would like upgraded to take us to the actual message!

Mark VH: appreciate the feedback -- an error message or page capture would help, thanks.

Dan,

That'll keep him off my back about it, at least. Thanks

Cool! The new headgear is neat. We just lost 5 from the ranks of the Royalty but gained 5 Pharoahs! And by the opening ceremony Friday, we may well have our first Olympian! What timing!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Great job on the new head gear Dan and team. It's good to see that things have finally, hopefully, slowed down enough from other problems that you were able to something as innocuous as this.

Hmmm.....I've always wondered what a pharoah felt like. Now on to the next hat......

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Emails have been very erratic since December.
I used to get 1 per day to notify me of New HP Forum discussions.
In December I got 2, in January I got 4, and today I got one for the first time in Feb. Trouble is I got the email 4 times.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Hi Graham and Darrell,

Thanks for your message regarding the daily forums email updates. For over the past 8 weeks, we have been experiencing trouble with the delivery system, and the subscription level has grown to a high level.

I've been working with our developer team to see what can be done, and they are working on the system now. We hope to have it corrected soon so the daily emails may resume. Please accept my apologies. I appreciate your patience while this is resolved.

Thanks again,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Dan,

About 5 minutes ago (approx. 13:22 Central time) I received:

Error processing SSI file '/cm/FamilyHomeContent/1,11868,LoggedIn!117,00.html'

While trying to refresh the HP-UX family page.

First one of those in a long time.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Hello Dan,

just to tell something positive: to me it seems that the e-mails to "notify" about individual threads have been working all the time (and still do), but the "daily" or "weekly" list of interesting threads are not sent any more (well, I do not miss them, anyway) for some weeks or even months.

And except for a little slow-down in responsetime now and then, everything is fine for me!

Thanks a lot,
Wodisch

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Thanks Wodisch for your positive feedback!

Richard, regarding notifications, I checked your email address in your profile and it looks valid (did it change at all?). I tested the notification system and everything checks out. The daily email updates are having a problem, but the "notify me" process for individual threads seems to be working fine.

I'll check with our support team and report back if I find out anything. Please let me know if things get better for you.

Regards,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

I finally can post again after 2 days of not being able to.

I emailed Dan and he suggested that I clear the IE 5.5 history cache.

That worked wonders, I wonder what the problem was.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Have finally twigged that I can use my Europe signon (complete with cap) on the Asia / America site.

2 slight annoyances,...

1. When making a posting, I keep having to flick back a screen to review the original while making comments, or else print the thing off. It would be handy to be able to see the original posting and subsequent comments when making a comment ourselves.

2. Once a posting is made, the only option is to return to the specific area of the posting (eg hpux - performance management). It would be nice to be able to go back to just 'hpux'.

Don't know how easy these requests are.

The forums have served me well, and I have learnt a great deal. Thanks HP.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - February 2002!

Thanks for your feedback!

Eileen -- I'm not sure why, but a few users have reported not being able to post replies. On the reply page, they encounter 404 error content (even though the URL is correct). As I suggested to John Bolene, if you delete your history files, things go back to normal....don't ask me why!

Ian -- great ideas, and both that have been requested before. We have them on our list of priority requests for the developers to include in an upcoming patch or release. Resources shift, so I can't say exactly when these will be implemented.

Thanks again,
Dan
