Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
Thanks for your continued feedback regarding the forums performance. Our support team is aware of the slow performance over the past few days, and they are working to resolve the situation. The performance for the last 2 hours (9-11am PST) has been pretty good at my end, however, all day yesterday and this morning was obviously poor.
The support and developer teams are involved at working on possible issues including networking, the servers, database, load, etc.
T.M. Louah -- you can view your total points by clicking on your name or on "my profile" on the left side bar.
Steven Sim -- not sure what caused the page formatting. Currently there is no way to correct the message.
Stefan (and all) -- we've been having difficulty in delivering the daily email updates and are working to correct this as well.
I appreciate your patience, and I personally and sincerely apologize for the lack of performance and availability of the forums on a regular basis.
Regards,
Dan

Refresh times less than 20 seconds is much better than minutes, but not quite back to the quickness that was happening last week.
Too much demand today?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
Few minutes back i posted a reply to one of questions on the forum.
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x9a11cb60e503d6118ff40090279cd0f9,00.html
The reply did not get registered since the browser gave some problem, 404 error if i remember correctly. so i just tried refreshing the browser. I may have done it a few times. But the browser did not return with the reply posted message. So i prepared another reply and before posting i just checked whether the earlier reply was posted or not and guess what do i find?. My reply got posted not one but three times. I was using a netscape browser if that is of any help.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
Forums performance has dramatically improved compared to the past couple of days. We were experiencing degraded performance due to a tremendous load caused by robots crawling the site. This has been resolved!
Also, the forums search engine is finally returning results as expected!! I've worked on searches a number of ways and the results are very good. Our development team is going to work on the engine further to ensure the correction is long term. Give it a try (not everyone at once!) :) http://us-support2.external.hp.com/emse/bin/doc.pl/forward/screen=emseHome/sid=af8458cd02569e4260?
Thanks for your continued participation in the forums, and for your patience during the past couple of days.
Thanks,
Dan

I think you and your team has done a wonderful job in tracking and resolving the load issue over the last couple of days. :P
Keep up the good work. Regards.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
over the last few days I have lost a few replies due to errors encountered, and - even worse - the "back" button did NOT go back and show my reply so I could re-submit, but the dialog box was EMPTY :-(
And since I could not post then, I could not tell you over here (well, seems I can now ;-).
And since I have seen an attached file re-appearing in other people's replies, I do have my first YAER (Yet Another Enhancement Request):
1) can we have something like a "list of attachments" where those are shown - with title and *original* name?
2) can we have an additional button "refer to an already existng attachment" (shorter name of course) which would then browse that list?
(Ok, that's two of them).
That way we would not have to flood your servers with the same files over and over again?
Oh, and repeating on old wish of mine:
3) can we have a list of the "YAERs" - perhaps with a "state" like "approved/done/working"...
Thanks in advance,
Wodisc

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
Performance has been great.
I have one idea for a nice improvement, is there a way for us to have everyone close out issues on the forum when they have a response that solves their problem.
In line with that idea, can we also have some icon created that shows that the issue is no longer active. Sometimes issues are solved and then you are unaware of that, thus you will post a response that may never get read by the individual posting the original question since he already feels that his question is already answered.
Just an idea for going forward with an already great product.
Thank you.

When trying to post replies, getting message.
The Page Cannot be Found
HTTP 404 File not Found
Took about 6 attempts to post reply at 9:20 GMT
It's taking about the same amount of retries to post this.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
the forums are still pretty "sluggish" in terms of responsiveness when trying to read a thread or trying to "reply" :-(
At least I am not loosing my answers, any more ;-)
Jaspers idea is nice, I tried reading the forums using "w3m" on my linux-pda, and it almost impossible to browse through...
Well, the disadvantages of text-browsers and small screen, perhaps.
Wouldn't it be nice to increase the "court" now? We are sitting on the "elder" royals' laps already, and the wizards are crouching on the floor :-)
Kind regards,
Wodisc

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
I too have noticed that overall response time today (1000-1830 EST) has been sluggish and inconsistent. I haven't seen any errors, per se, but have been logged off for seemingly no reason four or five times.
BTW, Wodisch seems to be doing his part to keep traffic down. He dropped the "h" in his signiture. ;-)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
Wodisch, thanks for the suggestion of implementing a couple more levels of hats. At the rate we are going, JRF will hit 20,000 before we have his new hat dusted off! The developer's time is consumed right now, but I'm lobbying hard to get the hats done....thanks for your patience.
Jim and Wodisch, thanks for the feedback on the performance. I haven't been experiencing sluggish behavior, however, I did receive an email from Canada regarding the same. I will check to see what is happening at the server level -- logging may have been increased.
Thanks again for your feedback.....keep it up!!

Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
Performance is fine with me. Below is the traceroute I get from my Windows box.
At around 2 hours back, I got consistent error "300" from the AsiaPac login despite many retries.
Hope this helps. Regards.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
Much of Friday the 18th January afternoon was spent attempting to reply to forums here & in business groups, and getting a message that this service was not available from HP - interspersed with the odd reply getting through fine... typically, the two threads that I just couldn't get to work were the two 'issues' threads... :-)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
once in a while I receive errors like this when trying to login, logout, start a new message, or when replying to a message:
could not login
Hewlett-Packard regrets this service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.
(Error 300)
I have found that if I delete all of my HP cookies, I can then login or logout, but if I don't I keep getting the above error.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - January 2002!
David tried to attach something useful there:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x35b3c8ecad09d6118ff40090279cd0f9,00.html
and it seems to be small enough in size, but at least when we try to download it, what we get is broken (should be a Windows ZIP file).
Could you have that checked, please?
I seem to remember that we had that kind of problem more than once in the past, already :-(
Thanks a lot,

Solutionseems we are experiencing fewer probelms due to the great work done by you and your team - thanks!
As before I would like to ask you to link this thread to the *next* one - I guess there will be on?
And, us usually, the statistics for january - a really terrific month in terms of crowns:
* 14955 Existing Forumers
* 2832 Active Forumers
* 2611 Newbies
* 74 Pros
* 62 Graduates
* 47 Wizards
* 36 Royalties
and JRF has almost managed to reach the 20k mark (19746), followed by A.Clay (15699).
Since Robin and Thierry are not far away from getting their first crowns, I do repeat myself to ask you about a little more *space* for the royal court ;-)
If you move the "most active forums" and the "response center FAQs" to the *left*, we could show at least some more of us...
Oh, and may we have links from the "hats" to (sorted?) lists og all those wearing that kind of hat? So the hall of wizards could be visited, the ranks of the "graduates" can be seen, and such?
Or as a bigger re-design of the "top-users list", show the first 3 of each group/hat?
Then we could the *best* of all the groups/hats?
Kind regards,
Wodisc
