Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hi Everyone,

First of all, I'm pleased to report that the ITRC Forums have been performing great for the past couple of months. The developers and support teams have done a terrific job of upgrading the application, and more positive updates are soon to arrive.

Nonetheless, please report any issues you encounter while using the forums during the month of June. As usual, this thread is ongoing and designed to capture your helpful feedback!

If reporting errors, please include URLs from your browser associated with error messages, and please include the date and time the errors occur.

You can also post your forums **successes** for June at:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xe3268f960573d611abdb0090277a778c,00.html

Thanks go to all of you who have submitted your past feedback!

Best regards,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Dan,

A minor curiosity, perhaps, but a recent forums search on putty.exe turned up these two URL's which point to the exact same thread:

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hi Pete,

Way back when, the thread URL format was modified, changing the thread ID number from 11866 to no number. As in "...QuestionAnswer/1,11866,0x66..." to "...QuestionAnswer/1,,0x66..."

Looks like the database is still holding both for this thread. Hopefully the thread held a solution for you -- if so, the bright side is you got double the answers! :)

Dan

Thanks, Dan. I think I should have known that - I've seen it mentioned but hadn't ever seen it in person.

Hi Dan,

any news on the "m" and "j" vs. the other first letters case?
Maybe you simpl have to increase the timeout permitted to your CGI scripts? :-)
I am patiently enough to wait a few minutes for those pages...

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hello Dan,

I was looking at this question and I decided to login and reply:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xbc2c8f960573d611abdb0090277a778c,00.html

I logged in (clicked on the 'login' link on the left side), entered my information, and this question came up (from October 2000):

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/0,,0xa0e8f841489fd4118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html

I've always been taken back to the same question screen that I was on before when I did the login. It wasn't a big deal, but it was kind of freaky.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hi John,

Interesting, but not entirely crazy. Just today, I ran into the same thing -- I was reading a thread that I had posted, went and logged in, and was subsequently redirected to the SAME thread as you! Thanks very much for reporting this, as I thought it was my machine! I'll get it looked at by the developer team.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hi Dan,

I seem to be unable to search the TKB by Document ID.
Many times I cut/paste doc IDs from posts & go to the TKB search, change to search by doc id, & get no results.

Here are some doc IDs I've tried that yielded no results

A3993149
LVMKBRC00005103
DFQKBCA00000220

Am I doing something wrong?
Is the search by doc id broken?
Seems the only way I can search is by topic.
Reading some posts, I don't think I'm the only one in this boat....

Thx,
Jeff

P.S. I, too, think something is amiss on the forum today....I came back to the HP-UX section from a post & the page was ONLY 5-6 items long...not the standard 20-25. I refreshed & all was OK again.....weeeiiird

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hi Jeff...sorry to hear you are having trouble. If it happens again, please submit the issue to the ITRC team that supports that area at itrc_support@hp.com. For now, I'll send them an email about the problem and copy you on it.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hi Dan,

Yep - I'm finally back... I left Computel and am now with someone who can appreciate the usefulness of being on the forums - company management policy was why I've been missing for a while...

Issue #1:
When I log in, I seem to be sent to other forum members profiles at random... no biggie once you're in, but I thought you'd like to know...

Issue #2:
There seems to be a problem between the forum Java & Opera V6 - do the forums only support Internet Explorer, is this a know problem, or should I document it for you??

Cheers,
Stuart Elflett

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Dan / Jeff Schussele,

I just tried searching on the Doc ID's that Jeff posted and got results on all 3 of them. The only time I did NOT get results was when I neglected to switch to 'Search by Doc ID'. When I did switch they all worked.

But then, that's just me! :)

You need to add a new category in the Microsoft forum. There is no place for XP.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hi Dan,

I'm still getting intermittent problems when posting a reply. There seems to be no pattern, but I still get Thankyou for your first participation & no reply posted.
I can always get around it by using the back button to get to the reply, refresh the page, add the reply back into the box (I always copy it now) and then submit.

Regards,

Hilary

PS in fact just got the message trying to post this.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hi Dan/Patrick

This is what I get when I "Search by Doc. ID"

using LVMKBRC00005103 as the search string

Note: I leave all the buttons/boxes below @ defaults

Note: Your search produced no results. It is either too specific or has spelling errors. Try a different search string or change your search criteria selection.

I'm using W2K w/IE 5.5....this is very strange.
Guess I'm just search impaired ;~)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Harry,

Don't care much for XP myself. Has the look and feel of an AOL browser. Everytime I work on one I have the urge to turn on CAPS LOCK and type everything in capitals and ask really dumb questions. ;-)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hi Dan,
I also have the "transported after logon" issue with the following threads :
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x547142308663d611abdb0090277a778c,00.html

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/0,,0x02dffef4d250d611abdb0090277a778c,00.html

Since I am a wizard these kind of things don't really bother me :-) but I thought I'd give the team another case to work on.

Regards,
Tom

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Using search for patches using http://support2.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/search.do?pageContextName=hpux::: has some issues

Opera-6.03: Cannot select OS version, empty drop down box. I *can* select the search type and enter a patch number, but it will then complain about the OS not being filled
Mozilla-1.0: Cannot enter the search text. I *can* select the os version and change the search type
Netscape-4.79: Works OK
IE-x.x: Refuse to use. I realy hope it becomes company policy to *forbid* IE, so I can use that as an argument to HP to make the site more standard compliant and not so aimed at M$ shitware

Dan, don't take this personal please

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hi,

reading the forums pages needs quite a bit patience because of the load times. Most time is consumed loading approximately 40 gif-items after most relevant text has already been loaded and displayed. Nevertheless some of the items are buttons you may want to press. Isn't there an alternative to sending many small graphics symbols every time you view a posting?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

I have an active thread going -
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xb3328f960573d611abdb0090277a778c,00.html
I posted a reply to a reply and assigned points to it. Now the Notify, Reply and New Message buttons have disappeared. I can not post another reply.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

The above mentioned thread has also disappeared and reappeared twice this morning. I just went back to look at it and can not find it in the HP-UX forum.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Never mind. I found the buttons.
When I cut & pasted some text it did not wrap. The thread is now a horizontal one. The buttons are way out to the right.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Tom, I'm experiencing the same issue. The developers are looking into it now...thanks for reporting it.

procura, I take nothing personal...your feedback is great. I'll pass along your comments to the search/patch group.

Klaus, obviously load times are dependent upon many factors. I experience excellent page loads on our LAN, and on a modem connecting. As you know, gif ALT tags help users identify a particluar image before it loads, so I'll see if that is possible to add.

Dave, check your thread now...I made some modifications that corrected the page spread problem.

Thanks to all,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2002!

Hi Dan,

Question...Could the reason I'm not able to get TKB search results by doc ID be due to the fact I don't, as of yet, have any contracts tied to my login?
Wasn't that the way the *old* TKB worked?
If I remember correctly only security docs could be searched w/o a contract.

Anybody out there have a login w/o a contract tied to it? If so would you try a search by doc ID to test this, please?

Thx,
Jeff
