Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

I just tried to post a web link to the humor thread

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xa28d402f24d5d61190050090279cd0f9,00.html

and it took 5 minutes to post the initial reply, then appeared to put the forums side bar menu links into my post (even after clearing tmp files etc).

I then re-posted, and I see the next message in a box alongside the previous one, rather than below it.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Not an issue, but a suggestion.

How about some *new* cartoon characters to choose from in the member profile pages ? The current picks are getting stale (hehe, I told Shane W. they were stale too!)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Twice this morning attempts to post responses lead to the browser(mozilla 1.3 Windows XP) getting stuck.

When checking the thread in a second tab, the response was posted.

This is good and bad. Good that the response got out there and was visible quickly. Bad that the server never got back to me with a new web page.

Sounds like you are making progress on this issue.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Hi Dan,
an interesting profile :
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/UserProfile/1,,CA957582!1,00.html
I really wonder how it has been created, no link is possible to this profile (no profile name !) from a post (see question/answer in this profile.)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Michael and benoit,

The member you pointed out has used Chinese simplified characters for his name. The forums only currently support English language characters, hence the garbage name. The member has been notified.

Others, thanks for the feedback....appreciate the help. Robert, I'll get that into the hopper...probably won't see anything for a few months due to scheduled work.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
I have MS IE 6.1, Win XP HOme.

When i click the "next" page of thread, always the last thread in the previous page is the first in the new page.

IS this a desiderate effect ?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Hi Dan,

This request probably seems quite trivial...

Is it possible to have the top 10 users listed on the printers forum as opposed to only 5?

I suppose it's based on the amount of users/posts?

Cheers,

Gary

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Dear Dan:

The lack of email notifications is becoming critical.

Although this has always been a problem which I've mostly attributed to 'having to be logged into the Forum in order to receive email notifications, (* may or may not be true *)', this is no longer the case. And I maybe receive one it ten.

So if you were to put this issue high atop your 'to do' list then I'm sure many would appreciate it, I know I would.

Thanks!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Massimo, no that is not the desired effect. That does not occur with my browser (IE5.5). The desired action is to take you to the next thread in line. Thanks for reporting this.

Gary, check it out now...what you were looking for?

Michael, I am subscribed to 'many' threads and I am notified of all replies. I can see that this is tested more, but since there are a few places email could get hung up can you tell me if it you're certain its not at your ISP, firewall, etc.?

Sean, very sorry about this problem. Please note that the acknowledgement pages are taking more time to build than needed and so it may appear your first submission didn't go through when it actually may have.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Hi Dan.
Just one small thing.
The reaction time of the submit button in replies is very poor. During the last days i have seen several people replying to postings.
Because of the weird reaction they must have pressed the button several times.
Guess what happened. Yes, three or more times the same answer.
Any way to change this behaviour ?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Hi Alexander, this has been for the past few months and a difficult one to uncover. The lab has been testing and will continue to try to find a fix. In the meantime, I'm very sorry about this problem. You are correct, the acknowledgement page is simply not loading fast enough even though the submission has taken place.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Hi Dan,

I still have difficulties in assigning points at that thread. In fact I can easilly if I first reply, then go back and assing / submit.

But on first submission, I get the thanks screen, but coming back to the thread show no new assignments.

Re-doing it works...

Hi Dan

Each time I tried to reply today ( 2-3 answers ), I had to hit the "submit" button twice ... ( maybe I didn't wait enought after the first hit ? )

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Hello all,
looking into first 'hpux' forums page I see 12 congrat threads (about half of all posts at this page) posted into 'general' section. I think it would be better to create 'congrats' section to put all congrats there

Eugeney,

I'm behind you 110% on this one !, either we're seeing an increase in new users or there's a habit forming out there ;-)

Dan is already aware of this issue ... it's been increasing for a little while now. I suspect the plan will not be to stop them, merely provide a more suitable area for them to be posted too which seems reasonable imho.

Hi Dan,

I have to correct my last post with 'no longer an automatical reload' - it was a setting at Netscape about comparing of cache and internet document. It works again. Sorry.

Jerome, I have the same procedure for assigning points with Netscape and M$ Explorer

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Dan (and Eugeny, Mike, and Alex),

I also support the idea of a separate category for congratulatory threads.

However, I would like to once again make my plea for the ability to create our own groupings or areas that we wish to see. I would like to be able to select the HP-UX area (which I assume will include the Congrats area under its umbrella), the 9000 area under Servers, the hp-ux based area under workstations, the Openview Performance Management area under management software, and the entire Storage area and have them all appear on one screen. To me, all those areas are HP-UX and I don't want to have five windows (four of which are rarely updated) open just to monitor them. PLEASE????!!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

I'm also in favour of a seperate category. OTOH it proves a major motivation for some forum members to see their stats, and we don't wanna loose any of them. So *if* you create a sepearate cat, it should be included in the "hp-ux" section, otherwise none of us would see them, which brings me to something that wanders through my mind for a longer time ...

There's a lot of categories to choose from, and I guess that most of the regulars - like me - choose "hp-ux" to just see all, and not only languages, databases, general, or whatever one is realy interested in. One other reason is that a lot of people still post in the wrong cat, and I would not like to miss these.

What about a ticklist for the categories we would like to see in a new "personal" pseudo categorie?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - June 2003

Hi Gang (Dan, Eugeny, Alex & Pete):

I support the idea of a congratulatory/chat category 110% too!!! Dan and Alex know my feelings on this one all too well. In fact, I'd like to see the category be one where points could *not* be assigned!

I also very much like Pete's suggestion -- to be able to create virtual family pages for the very reason he cites!

Eugeny, I regret, as I know the rest of the professionals here did, having seen the diatribe you recently had to bear from a "contributer" of this Forum who saw fit to publicly insult you. Needless to say *his* remarks are the pure "BS".

Dan, you *still* need to expunge the thread to which I refer.

Warmest regards!

...JRF...
