Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002
10 minutes later, it can be zinging along.
So, as little help as it may be, site response is very nearly randomly great and nasty. If there's any trend, it seems to be poor around 07:30 pm GMT and 02:00 pm GMT (here, anyway).

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002
An HP employee does not neccessarily have an HP logo ("HP engineer") next to his/her name.
An HP employee can chose to be one or the other. If (s)he wants to become an "HP engineer" then that comes with extra responsibilties and 'privileges'.
For example, I started as a 'normal' user, i.e. without the logo, and after a few months became an "HP engineer" (with logo).
Besides the example you gave, there are many other HP employees which are 'normal' users.
I hope this clarifies things.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002
I am sorry to tell you, but the "j" problem still exists:
Error processing SSI file '/cm/MemberListContent/1,11917,LoggedIn!j!1,00.html'
Since I am using a kind of plain vanilla IE6.0 there should not be a problem here - it is with the forums server (the other letters work, though).

Wodisch

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002
Starting at Bill McNamara's post:
Bill: there is not a way to remove a cartoon character at this time. You can swap them, but not delete them once chosen. I???ve got this reported into the dev team.
Procura: Frank is right ??? the page you encounter is a reminder to update your contact information. If you go to bottom of page and click submit, you will be on your way. Unfortunately, if you don???t click submit, you will be reminded again, and again, and again???. Also, I checked your profile and you have assigned points to all of your responses ??? must have been a delay in updating your profile.
Nancy: your thread was removed.
Patrick: Thanks for the pointer, and I appreciate your past efforts in this area. As Frank mentions, anybody with the HP logo in the forums has received some level of training regarding the forums. However, I have contacted this user and he is interested in attaining ???logo status???. So, thanks for letting me know, and thanks to Frank for helping clarify.
Jon: tough to say why the experience you are having is occurring. Could be network issues.
Regards,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002
I'm not sure, but this may be due to your cookies trying to direct you to a server that may be out of the rotation for maintenance, updates, whatever. There are a number of servers managing the forums and ITRC. The default URL http://itrc.hp.com will find the most available server. This is safest connection route vs having your cookies try to point directly at a particular one (that may be out). Again, this may be only one of many reasons for a 404 (proxy issue, networking, etc.). Hope this helps.

Dan

Things were definitely going downwards on Saturday ... couldn't get a reply in on Sunday ... and not this morning either. I could get to most threads by trying twice or trice ...
Seems to be back to normal now ?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002
Is it possible that there, again, is a *network* problem, instead of a (ITRC Forums) *webserver* problem?
I ask this because, like the others, I have been getting 404/page_not_found errors today (Monday). Most of the time a 'refresh' 'fixed' the problem. However on our statistics pages, it says that the Forums have been up 100% since (at least) last Thursday.
I remember that some time ago there was a *generic* *network* issue which affected many people from Europe. As far as I remember, that problem was not caused by HP, but was some kind of *public* *'Internet'* problem.
It would be nice if there was some kind of way in which users can tell the difference between the two, i.e. network problem versus (specific) webserver problem. Sadly enough I know too little about this stuff to help with that. If any of the users *do* have suggestions, then please feel free to contribute.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002
Well I don't know if anyone has mentioned this...and I don't know exactly when it began...BUT
I bookmark pages I like to keep handy. I noticed that alot of my bookmarks now just take me to the us-support page, but not to the Document ID I had bookmarked long ago. My url used to be good...it used to take me directly to that Doc ID..but not anymore. I even tried cut/past out the doc id # from the url and putting that in the question/criteria line with Doc ID option selected..and it didn't work. It would seem that either alot of doc's have been removed..or renumbered.
What's the deal ??
Example:
Here;s is the url I had bookmarked for 'telnet, peer died'
http://us-support.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/sid=579b333908cf55d881/screen=ckiDisplayDocument?docId=200000054292502
...it don't work no more...and neither do others I had.
Rgrds,
Rita
