Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Ron,

Multiple servers handle the login function -- and they do it for all ITRC services. If one of those servers is taken out of rotation, is being serviced, or is just down, and your cookie is pointing to it, this may result in what looks like the system being down when you are requested to login after idle time. I'm not sure if that is what is occurring, but it may be. If it happens again, try typing in http://itrc.hp.com and logging in.

Regards,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Procura --

Regarding the beta patch db, the following was sent to me by the manager of the development team in charge of the interface:

"I just tried (4:32 pm MST, 3/14) the same sequence and it worked as it should - no funny error messages or no missing os revision strings. However, no documents were returned. I checked the production (non beta) interface and it also returned no documents for the RRIP search string.

The 50014 error is complaining about an invalid field, which in this case was apparently the missing os revision. The search
query requires this parameter. This is an internal error which isn't supposed to be visible. Not sure yet what the bug is.

Also, are you saying that the problem occurred using opera and worked fine using mozilla?"

Procura, thanks for the heads up. If you have a reply for the last question above, I'll be sure to forward it on.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Hi Dan,
This may or may not be important, but I've often noticed that missing icons on the pages are a prelude to bigger problems.

This morning (GMT morning I mean :-) I noticed several icons missing (including the Pharoah-one ... I just love the typo :-). They came back on a second attempt and everything else works fine ... but I just thought I'd mention it.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Hi Dan,
I'm afraid I was right (see previous reply). Just now I couldn't get an answer through ... and when I did (tried 4 times) ... I posted it twice. See http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xd9d70bce6f33d6118fff0090279cd0f9,00.html

Very embarassing :-)

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Hi Dan.
Had some weird problem with the login.
Did login on Europe server.
Assigned points to replies on my posting
'Inetd dying'.
Tried to go to a link on the Americas / Asia Pacific server, ran into another login request.
Could not fulfill, because i have a European userid.
Went back to posting and had to do a complete login on the Eruope server again.
Could you help with some explanation ?

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Hello Dan,

the "j" member pages are still not available.

And since I am currently far away from home, it is pretty unlikely to be connected to my laptop, or german network access (I am in Dubai now, using Etisalat's network, so I guess it *is* different from home).

Could that be the reason for Jim being "down"?
If the member-database has a problem with "j" he might not be able to login (nor could any of his clones).

Curiously,
Wodisch

Don't know how much the infrastructure of ITRC is interconnecting SUM and ITRC, but SUM seems to be unavailable at the moment

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Hi Tom...this issue has been reported to the support team and they are looking into it. Users have seen this over the past few weeks. Apologize for the inconvenience. I've also deleted your "2nd" post in the thread you pointed out.

Alexander -- the issue you describe has been reported by others. I've put a call into the login team and hope to find out more. I will let you know what I hear.

Animesh, thanks for this -- strange and never before seen at my end.

Wodisch, the "j" list was put back in working order last week...I've placed a call to get this resolved. Thanks for lett me know. Not sure about Jim...perhaps you ask him??

Procura, thanks for the message. I heard SUM was going through some updates and maintenance and was going to be down for a bit. This is a service handled separately from the forums team.

Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Dan,

A little weirdness this AM (approx 11:15 Central). I went to www.itrc.hp.com as normal & could not login until I noticed that it had "assigned" me to the Euro server login. Changed it on the screen & was able to login OK then.
Something wrong w/the Americas server(s) this AM?

Rgds,
Jeff

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

The Forum was acting up last night at around 9:30PM EST. I was getting a lot of 404's and having to do multiple refreshes. Also got several new messages "site does not exist."

I posted a reply to this trouble post last night about the problem and it still hasn't shown up even tho I got the Thank You for Posting screen on only the first refresh.

Thing seem to be working OK this morning.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Hi

I know its a bit late in the month but I have only just got into using the forum.

My biggest complaint is that when I recieve an email to say an update has been made I have to hit the link and wait for ages for the page to come up ( useless dial up connection from far afield ).

If the email gave the text from the last update and the latest contribution obviously answered the question I would not have to bother firing up the web page.

Also it would be real cool if we could receive emails to say we have received points for our contributions.

im really enjoying the forum and keep the window open all day now.

keep up the good work
John.

Hi Dan

I have been getting disconnection notices before the page even opens for the last three days. probably 6 times in three days for a guess.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Hi Dan,

one day ago i posted a question here, category servers and i recieved several good answers. When i tried to assign points for the answer, this worked fine in three cases, but for one answer it was impossible to assign any points. When i clicked the "Assign points"- button, a window was opened like the one after assigning points. No way for me to assign points for the answer, though i retried seven times.

:-(

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

When I try to asign points, reply, or post new, (even with IE), I quite often reach the user data (not the profile with the forum preferences, but the page that titles "update user information") instead of the requested New message page or asign points page

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

procura, I had a similar 'problem', but in my case it turned out to be a case of RTFD (Read The Fine Display). When I actually *read* what it said, it said something to the effect that HP wants to keep the user information up-to-date and therefor you are requested to check it. Of course your situation may be different, YMMV, etc..

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

procura, I don't know about 17 times a day, but I got it 'a lot' (several times per day) until I read what it said and acted accordingly. I didn't note down the exact text, so I can not post it. Perhaps Dan knows what I am rambling about.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - March 2002

Howdy Dan,

It appears that there is a new HP person lurking in the Forums that needs the HP logo attached to his profile.
