Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Just repeating two of my previous complaints:

1. It still takes too long to get to the new Networking. It's down to about 11 seconds today vs 2 seconds for the HPUX forum but I still feel discriminated against!

2. The Microsoft Forum has no XP option. It's about time ITRC recognized that XP exists and is not going away (much as some of us might wish for it to)

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Hi Dan:

First, Happy New Year to you and everyone!

Here a two (small) items that I think deserve attention:

1. The copyright line at the bottom of Forum pages reads "?? 1994-2001 Hewlett-Packard Company"...getting old and due for renewal.

2. As I have asked repeatedly, may we please have an update to the Forum's page which discusses "status and accumulation of points"? After nearly a year, we are still missing the 'Pharaoh' and 'Olympian' tiers.

Regards!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Not to complain too much, but I had no luck getting to the web site as a whole this morning. It seemed to be dead to the world until about 09:00 (or so) CST, making the forum unreachable as well as the online support and maintenance.

That wouldn???t have been so bad if there were another way to contact HP about such errors, but the only link that I have found to report problems like this is on the web site itself.

To top it all off, when I called the support number to let a human know of it, the little lady on the other end of the line developed a bad attitude and told me that since I was ???unwilling??? to send them an e-mail about it, I would just have to wait and then promptly hung up on me. She never did seem to grasp the fact that I couldn???t access a link on the web site that was down to report that the web site was down.

Oh well. She was most likely still hung over from the New Years party :-)

If that???s the biggest problem I have with the site this year, then I???ll consider myself lucky.

Happy New Year to all!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Hi Dan,

I really wish the Forums would allow either a fixed width font, or something similar to the HTML
tags so that text could be formatted better.

Output from commands like ioscan would be much easier to read, as would scripts that are cut and pasted in that have indenting.

I know this has been asked for previously, but I thought I'd just chime in and post it this month.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Was there a total HP DNS problem this morning?

I was unable to look up any HP addresses.

All other web pages worked great, but nothing for hp.com was found.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Well, I can't speak for anyone else but I could get to the HP.com site w/o errors so I would have to say that it wasn't total. All I had problems with was this site...

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

This is not so much a complaint as a feature request.

I'd like to NOT have to go through "All Forum Members" and then scroll through a half dozen pages to see what my current score is (I'm in a competition with a cow-orker). T'would be a boon if there were a message like "Welcome soandso, you have 96,874 points", then add a button where we can scroll through the messages where we last replied and were given points.
T'would be another feature where we could see replies where we haven't been given points.

Biggest gripe:
The speed of the entire site is SLOW.
Of all the places I visit on the WWW
this is by far the slowest. :(

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Hi All...happy new year to you!

Ron: I had a talk with the lab on the load time of the networking category. It is perplexing, and may have to do with the fact it is the "last" family area that was created. I was told over time it will decrease in build time...doesn't help you much now, I know.

Jim: thanks for the reminder....I need to work with the folks who update that page -- would be nice to have dynamic publishing for it, but alas no.

John and John: there were no trouble reports that I'm aware of for the forums. The hp.com site may have had some problems, but not aware of any. I've been on the forums all day.

Patrick: good suggestion and reminder.

Talk with you soon...

Hi Chris,

how about bookmarking your own profile.
That's how I enter the forum (using my own profile of course :-)

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/UserProfile/1,,CA649164!1,00.html

All you want on the first page to the forum.
From there you can check your points and responses and when finished, take off to your most favorite forum as you like, which I guess would be "hp-ux" or "system administration" in your case.

Just a way to do it with what is provided now.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Dan,

With all due respect, I have to disagree with you on the 'no complaints' issue. I, myself, tried to voice a complaint on the fact that the web site was unreachable. The problem I ran into was that I wasn't sure how to go about it since the only links for doing so were supposed to be on the web site that I couldn't reach (sounds almost like something the government would come up with now that I think about it).

Perhaps you could give me some pointers on what to do the next time this happens?

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Hi Dan,

Happy New Year!

I hate to start off the New Year with an old complaint, so I'll start with a question:

If I was looking for information on VPAR's or NPAR's, wouldn't I go to the general HP-UX SysAdmin forum? I'll answer that. Yes, I would. Would I go to the Server's category? No, I wouldn't - there's no activity to speak of there. Why, then, would this question on VPAR's/NPAR's get moved to the servers category?

I'd like to propose that a survey be done of the community. Let's find out who monitors only these very specific, low activity categories. I really think that 9000 servers and hp-ux workstations and OpenView and the entire storage category could be merged under HP-UX. If not, then we need a feature to create our own areas of interest - our own groupings of categories.

There, I feel better now. I won't bring it up for at least a month, I promise.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Hi All!

I have been experiencing the problem that I only get email notification the *first* time that a response is made to one of my ITRC posts. Previously I got email every time some one replied, but that no longer seems to be the case. I have checked and notification is still enabled for a number of posts that I have made, but I only get a message the first time someone replies. Has anyone else seen this?

Hi Dan,

The search function is broken again. No matter what I use for keywords, no matter what type of matching I select, it comes back with no results.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Dan,

Page load times in the 2 and a half minute range this morning - 10:30 AM EST. 2 minutes, 25 seconds to open this thread, then another 2 minutes and change to open the reply page. The Forums are just about unusable in this state.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Minutes per page is not a good thing.

Started for me around 10 AM CST, still continuing.

I suppose it is good that we are not getting timeouts, just really slowwwwwwwwww pages.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Ok,

I hate to join in on a gripe session, but I have to agree with Pete, Kelli, and John.

The site is running much too slowly today. I have clicked on links from e-mail notifications many times today and have decided to go on to look at other things while I wait on the page to load. I???m almost to the point of calling the whole thing a wash today. If I want to waste my time waiting on something to happen, I???ll sit back and wait on management to make a logical decision!

Only one point to argue with (sorry John). John may not be getting timeouts, but I have been. I have gotten several within the last few attempts.

If this is the way it???s going to continue, then I will have to consider locating an alternate source of information. This is not something that I look forward to???

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

It would be a good idea to post an alert on the itrc homepage informing us that HP is experiencing some problems instead of us just wondering. I have been trying for the last 4 hours and getting very poor response. I just think it would be helpful to know that the problem is on HP's end.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for January 2003!

Hi Dan,

The ITRC Forums web site is getting slower and slower this afternoon. I navigated out to the ITRC home page, and then tried to click on Forums to get back here. With the URL below in my address bar I got the error message below:
