Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for October 2002

Hi James and Shiju,

Thanks for the info...the support team looked into it and found a new server was not synchronized with the others. This has been resolved and you should not see this happening anymore. Please let me know if this problem persists.

To others, thanks for your reports as well.

Thanks,
Dan

Dan: a search of the ITRC forums will provide your support team with a plethora of responses on how to set up NTP between your various boxes...

I replied to this thread last on October 21. Today it is shown with an October 28 date (http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/FamilyHome/1,,268,00.html). There are no additional posts so why does it have a new date? Could it be because the poster tried to award points and the attempt failed?

Generally slow all day, and again several 404's in submitting answers (again also in this one). Most of the time the second submit succeeds.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for October 2002

Dan,

I've been basically locked out for days, now. I get "connection reset by peer" trying to load the home page, or I get "ssl" errors, or, once in a great while, I get through but as soon as I try to open a question, I'm right back to square one. This morning I even got the "could not log in" response telling me to go to the Americas/Pacific site or whatever. I've even tried switching from Netscape 4.79 to 6.2, thinking maybe it was the browser. I'll (reluctantly) try IE next, but I don't hold much hope for it.

This is going to knock me off Procura's "fast movers" list for the first time other than when I've been on vacation so you better give me a 100 points for this response (just kidding).

Pete, indeed, only the third time you're not on (the other two being the reports for the weeks from 24-07 to 31-07 and 26-09 to 03-10). But hey, 7 points in one week ain't /that/ bad ...

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for October 2002

In the help corner about how to assign points, the text says ...
..The Question Author rates the responses on a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high). A N/A grade is available as well and would apply, for example, if a user gave a response that did not answer but simply asked the Question Author for more information.

But while assigning points, I don't see N/A anymore. Instead I see 0-10. Is it replaced intentionally? Sometimes assigning 0 seems rude and leaving unassigned relects bad on Author's part. can N/A be put back?

Thanks

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for October 2002

Kellogg, your first point is a known issue. notifications are - for now - only soppurted if you have no more than one e-mail address. I'm suffering from the same. My suggestion was to be able to tick the address to send the ack's to.

For the second point, just asign 0 where you used to asign N/A. The doc's are outdated. Good catch, but no-one will be angry if you asign 0. Personally I prefer 0 over [unassigned], because then I know that the person has taken time to asign. In the end, N/A is the same as 0, so who cares.

BTW Dan, for this message I didn't only get 404 twice, but also the text message "URL not found"

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for October 2002

Procura,

Thanks for clarification. What is funny about it is that every day, we receive an email from 'itrc_forums1@hp.com' with a subject header "New HP Forum Discussions for " and everyone in our group gets it!

I was thinking same logic may be applied for notification as well.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for October 2002

Hi Dan:

In a continuing effort to provide meaningful work for someone, I have noted, again, that an update to the Forums' introduction is needed.

Specifically, someone should note that there are levels beyond Royality [ :-}} ]

...AND... that an "N/A" response is now a o-point assignment...

Afterall, the copyright on this page was updated but the information has been stale for a period equivalent to a human's gestation. :-;

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for October 2002

Dan,

This isn't related exclusively to the forums. But the search feature really, really stinks.

Today I did a search for a particular error message. I chose the "exact phrase" option to search for the exact phrase.

I got back about 30 hits from the itrc forums and tech docs.

However not one single hit had the phrase in it. Some weren't even closely related to what I was looking for.

Try searching for: "This node is not contained in the domain" and see what results you get back.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for October 2002

Hi Dan,

This is a repeat of a request I've made previously.

I would REALLY like to see another date displayed for each question. I would like to see the date/time that it was ORIGINALLY POSTED along with the date/time of the last response.

I would also like to see something would allow the author of a question to disallow further responses to the question if they so choose.

Some food for thought.

Kellogg, I still have not found a way to disable that message at all. I don't want it. Period. I've already tried to untick all fields of interrest, but to no success. Can we get that option in our profile please?

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for October 2002

Dan,

I'd like to second Patrick's suggestions.

Firstly, I responded to a congratulatory post yesterday that was over a year old just because I saw it on the top of the list again - that darn Bill McNamara strikes again ;^). Having the original posting date displayed either in place of, or in addition to, the most recent posting date would be a tremendous help.

Additionally, being able to close a post would also be very helpful in general, as well as in the above situation.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for October 2002

Dan,

As long as I'm in the whining mode this morning, here's one that my have been brought up before or may just be my lack of re-trainability, but I've seen plenty of others do it as well:

When submitting a question, after you pick the category and fill in the subject, if you hit the enter key, thinking that you'll be advanced to the text box to enter the body of the question, it is, instead, submitted.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for October 2002

Hey Dan,

Time for a November thread! :)

I ran into an interesting issue today. It appears that you still have a time synchronization problem between your servers.

I came back from lunch and posted an answer to this thread: http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xff555c7609e9d61190050090279cd0f9,00.html

I went back and looked at the thread and my answer was after a pair of postings from Clay (which appear to be duplicates). When I went back to that thread a couple of minutes later, there was a response from John Poff (I think) that was somehow inserted between Clay's responses and my response. I'm sure it's due to the lack of the time being synced.
