Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Hi Dan:

Things are getting worse. I just posted to this thread to note that I'm getting a high fraction of 404-errors this morning, and that clicking 'refresh' doesn't always resolve them the first time [as it did yesterday].

I submitted something to this effect; go a 404-error; clicked refresh; and was congratulated on being a *first time* user! Now, we *all* know I've been around for awhile :-))

In any event, it appears that the first post to this thread did *not* take.

Regards!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Dan,

This is getting serious now.

About 08:25 CDT *something* on this site screwed up my IE 5.50.4807.2300 to the point that it really hosed up my OS - Win 2K.
It was causing ANY OS action to take 15-20 seconds...clicks...opens...closes...ANYTHING!
Even AFTER I closed ALL IE windows - GOD I HATE M$!!!!

It took me almost 15 minutes to get a clean reboot & restarting IE afterwards took almost 2 minutes.

Now I don't mind 404s & SSIs, BUT when you screw up my OS - I get perturbed to say the least.

Let's get these servers & Web Apps fixed please!!!
And what's it going to take to get the forums on Apache via HP-UX or Linux anyway?!?!? See this is why MicroSucks...it gets worse AFTER maintenance half the time - not better.

BTW....Not a good time to be forcing user satisfactions popups on us either....

Ok I've vented,
Jeff

More 404's and

processing SSI file '/com.hp.itrc_Core/com.hp.itrc_Core_TopLeft_Welcome/1,11958,,00.html'

with the accompanying ugly screen (skewed right)

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Hi Dan:

With the increase in load this morning, things get worse. I'm seeing lots of SSI errors resulting in skewed pages, missing messages and buttons.

404-errors are very frequent too.

What "maintenance" was done to cause these problems?

Regards!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Hi All,

Please standby for an improvement in the availability. I apologize for this current issue, and the support/lab teams have been looking into it since yesterday. I'll be sure to let you know what we find. I'm sure we'll be get back to where we were regarding availabilit soon.

In the meantime, I have found that when I encounter an SSI or 404, a refresh loads a good page.

Thanks,
Dan

PS: after submitting this message, I encountered a 404. However, the message posted, so it appears the acknowledgement page was dropped.

PSS: Jim, missed your message. A new ITRC release was put into production on Friday...not sure, but this may be related. The weekend work actually didn't take place due to scheduling.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Hi Dan,

since the "contest" is finished - shouldn't the link on the main forums page be updated to the "winners" thread?
And be renamed, or so?

I'm still getting 404s. I'm finding today I have to refresh several times before getting a page to display.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Dan,

Mistakenly i posted this as a new message under general. Can u pls delete that.

First, and foremost, i may been bored refreshing my screens everytime i get an 404 error or normal screen not getting refreshed errors.

It's very painful. Secondly, you may divide the rated columns as Not Rate, Rated between 1-7 & Rated between 8 -10

Also, you may stop those Customer satisfaction pop up's from disturbing us everytime i scroll back and down.

You may infact, use a notification message for those who post questions after they have a reply in the forums to assign points through email.

I have found many people just scrolling through answers and getting off without assigning points to even one person who helped.

It would be a good suggestion to have further user interaction by having a open discussion sort of a forum at a specified time, information about which can be posted here on a discussion group most widely used in the last week having 5-10 issues.

Regards,
Anil

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

There appear to be major performance problems at the moment. It's just taken me almost 10 minutes to load more than a header on a page (after a number of timeouts etc).

Other sites (yahoo, M$, BMC) appear fine, so I'm sure it's not a local issue.

I am encountering performace problems too.

This website is not as fast as it used to be. I currently use a 100Mbps connection.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Chris and SM,

Thanks for the report. I have a case into the support and lab teams who are checking into what is causing this performance issue over the past few days. Please hang in there, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks,
Dan

I'm with Ted - couldn't connect at all for a while (circa 11:10 - 11:20 EDT). Hopefully that was a fix being implemented cuz the 404's and SSI's were still problematic this morning.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Some extra oddness to go with the 404's/SSI errors........

Several times in the last two-three days, I've hit the "search" link on the left of the screen and been sent to the "my profile"/modify user information screen.

The first time I thought it was my mistake, but it has recurred 4 or 5 times. I did not hit the wrong link.

Even more 404's. When I click "Submit", my response is lost. Most annoying. Wouldn't it be ironic if it happened when I hit "Submit" for this comment...

Dan

I am getting alot of http:404 not found errors when trying to post points to questions i have submitted.

I am also receiving significant drop off's in response time on the site between 12PM-5PM EST.

Sure these are not new issues but they are still there.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Today I'm getting 404 errors on many pages.

And also the search function is bringing back no results for forum searches. Even something simply like searching for "perfview" brought back nothing.

I wonder what "...but have not been using it recently..." means? Are they talking about when I was sleeping last night :-??

Hi Harry,

Yes, that's exactly what it means. We expect a total forums commitment, 23.95 hours a day, with 0.05 hours for rest. :)

I'll get this passed over to the folks who manage this newsletter. I'm glad you find humor in it, I must admit I do!

Take care,
Dan
