Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Hello,

ITRC forums have been acting up badly these last 3 days. Barely let me contribute...

Things like:

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Hi Vincent,

Have you (or anyone) seen this or other errors occur today (Sept. 19th) or have things settled out? I haven't seen any errors today. I'm hoping what the support team did has fixed things.

Regards,
Dan

Hi Dan:

I don't know what you boys and girls did overnite but it seems to have fixed the tons of 404 errors. Things are much better now.

Dan,

I, at least, am absolutely ecstatic to report that I haven't hit the reload button yet today. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Dan,

I concur with Sir Pete.
Not a single refresh for me today either.
And that's much appreciated as I seem to have been the one that caught the most hell from the last few day's features....urr...bugs.
Excuse me, I was in M$ mode there =~)

Muchos gracias
mi amigo,

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Dan,

There seems to be some arbitrary deletion of threads that have legitimate responses. I understand the zeal to remove duplicate threads, but if they both have responses, it would benefit all if the responses were moved to the thread being kept!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Dan,

Gremlins are back.
At 16:15 I got a 404 & the refresh took a minute.

The first time I tried to post this notice, upon submit I got a server not found error & for about 10-15 minutes it was if the forum server(s) had fallen off the face of the earth.

Must have been one of those required M$ NT daily reboots ;^)

Hello Dan,

Still the same thing...

When reading a thread, garbage still appears on the top of the document.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Dan,

Not an issue, but an enhancement request. From my profile, I'd like to have some way to identify threads of mine that have new responses.

For instance, today I clicked on my profile and it says I have given points to 94 of 95 responses. So I click on my questions link to see my threads. I then have to go through each one to see which thread has the new response. It would be nice to have some way to identify either threads with new replies, or even threads with posts that I haven't awarded points to.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Hi Dan,
The last 2 days, when I hit the submit button, no datatransfer takes place. When I stop transfering, and submit again, all works fine.
Any idea? (ps I work with Opera 6.0.1 on win95)

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Hi Dan:

There is a problem with replies the last few days. As noted above by Donald, when one clicks "submit" to post a reply to a thread, at least 30-seconds are required before one gets an acknowledgement. The submission, however, as been committed. You can see this easily by clicking submit and, in another window, refreshing the thread to which you have just replied. You will see the reply is correctly posted long, long before you receive an acknowledgement.

This anamoly seems to have produced several duplicate posts in various threads. Indeed, I have done so myself in my impatience.

Regards!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Hi Dan,

Hope you're having a good time in Los Angeles at HP World (ya bum!!!!).

I don't know if this has been suggsted before, so I'm going to.

When reading a thread, can we eliminate the "New Message" button and just have the "Reply" and "Notify Me" buttons there? There seems to be a lot of people accidentally clicking "New Message" when they are attempting to reply to a thread. Eliminating the "New Message" button from the screen should eliminate this.

I personally don't think it would cause any real problems not being able to start a new thread while reading an existing thread. I wouldn't have a problem with it anyway.

Also, and I think I have suggested this before, can the buttons (Reply and Notify Me) be moved from the right side of the screen to the left? In a thread, like this one, in which someone has posted a long URL, it is a minor pain to scroll all the way to the right to be able to get to the reply button.

Just my $0.02 worth since I can't see you in person this week.

Patrick

Hello Dan,

Can you please arrange this thread:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x44e1a848deccd61190050090279cd0f9,00.html

It's a bit messy due to unsuccessful URL posts by me :-)

Thanks,
Vince

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

A few wishes:

If I select 'notify me' on a thread, then reply (potentially several times) I really don't mean I want mail telling me of each of my replies to that thread. They're helpful if someone else is replying but I obviously know that I replied.

It would also be nice if the 'reply' form text box didn't have to be artificially much narrower width than when the thread is viewed. I hate having a big screen but the forms artificially limiting my typing to some tiny fraction of the available screen.

Hi Dan,
Cannot see the forums (like ITRC->hpux) all morning:
Error processing SSI file '/cm/FamilyHomeContent/ 1,11868,LoggedIn!117,00.html'

I can enter the threads though.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Hi Dan,

From some time, 2 or 3 weeks ago, I noticed that my public forum profile "Country" field displays data from my "Company" field. After this I changed "Company" field to contain "Country" data and in such way corrected situation. But before everything was OK. Looks like a bug!

Seems like Robin Hood/Superman/Batman/Zorro has entered the arena, take a look at the ITRC member with this profile:

I like him!!!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues - September 2002

Hey Dan,

Hope you had a good trip back.

Now, enough of the pleasantries, on to the issues. This morning, from just about 6:20AM until 6:40AM EDT, things came to a complete halt. A reply to Lief's congratulatory thread came back with a 404 after 5 minutes or so. An attempt to reload the main page came up with a SLI error after several minutes, then finally everything cleared and things are back to normal.

Thought you might want to know.

Pete
