Points Police

Good morning all.

This user :-

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/UserProfile/1,,BR709118!1,00.html

I do not know how other members feel but I for one do not like nor condone this.

Either this user owns up to who he/she is or Dan should delete the users and their posts.

Your views please

Re: Points Police

Hi Paula,

It is a bit off.
I can't believe someone has the time to do that, and I don't think it is very helpful to the forum.

I've drawn Dan's attention to this .... hopefully he will follow this up discretely when he gets in today.

Re: Points Police

Hi,

Looks to me this is really unacceptable behaviour !
Haven't we said enough about points.
Looks to me like this person has nothing else to do !
Either this user shouls be removed, or we all should ignore his/her's post/answers.

Re: Points Police

Whilst I support the encouragement to award points and the etiquette od the forums, perhaps this user should at the very least have the name description changed. It is a turn-off. At my company we have e-mail police and internet police..... enough already.....

Re: Points Police

Although we should encourage people to assign points, I find that there are also too many people assigning points for no reason whatsoever in some threads. That being said, there is no excuse for the person who has responded in this manner.

We will be taking action, as Alex said, and Dan will make sure this person understands the error of his/her ways.

Re: Points Police

Hi,

We better recall this forum etiquette thing from Patrick once again !

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x022718276953d61190040090279cd0f9,00.html

If everyone would follow this in the best possible way, there would be no "problem"/thread like this.

Re: Points Police

I think that's quite funny actually!

Although, it really lacks the hp logo to make it official..

Re: Points Police

Hi, I'm sure there is another way for solving this. There are a lot of responses without points assigned. But the forums' users should assign points to there questions. Anyway, the "Points wathcher" doesn't have to chase runaway unaswered threads.....

I'm with Bill - I find it amusing. Must be the little bit of Irish in me.

I have several theories about who it might really be but I think I should probably keep my mouth shut for once - I'm sure I'd offend someone.

Re: Points Police

I thought you needed an actual contract to set up an account, but I guess I'm wrong? And Shannon, no, it wasn't me :-)) I find that to be a bit extreme. If it was me, I'd have to call it weight watcher, being 20lb's over.

At least they have 100% in point assignments?

Re: Points Police

No, Harry, you don't need a contract. In fact, my wife signed up not too long ago and I'm pretty sure she doesn't have a contract.

Re: Points Police

Hi everybody,

I agree with Pete and Bill. I think it is funny. I notice that the "Point Watcher" user has only posted replies to three questions, all in the Management Software forum. Probably just another user getting tired of not getting assigned points every time.

I wish I could give my points away. Then I could be the "Points Pumpkin" and go make other users happy. :)

Re: Points Police

Paula,

My apologies as well.

John (the Points Pumpkin),

Now that's funny!!

Harry,

No (at least I don't think so). She's pursuing her Master's degree in Internet Engineering and thought she might be able to utilize the forums as a resource. Little did she know that all we do out here is chat.

Re: Points Police

I've been accused of being a points policeman, but why the hell not? If I invest hours in researching something, I should expect at least a thank you. I have found that most people that post a lot of questions and have assigned little or no "thank-you's" don't even acknowledge with a reply to say thank you, or it worked, or anything for that matter, they just move on to the next question.

Funny thing is, that after a few reminders, they usually clean up their transgressions. I've seen some go from a few hundred unanswered thank-you's down to the most current!

The biggest benefit of this site is the diversity of questions and answers. If you don't learn something new here everyday, then you have to be either extremely intelligent or brain dead (which makes you management ready - no not the intelligent part, the brain dead part).

Re: Points Police

Hi Paula,
I myself occasionaly point out "Patrick's link" to new users ... but I always use my own name (so people know who to get angry with ;-).

The problem with this account is that it sounds "official". As someone pointed out, it just needs the HP-logo to make it "real". The "clipped of" (is that the right idiomatic ?) tone of the messages actually makes them scary.

I suggest that Dan actually changes the name to "Points Pumpkin" (or something similar). That would (for me) bring it down to a level where I can laugh with it.

Regards,
Tom

Re: Points Police

Tom

Perhaps the name should be changed to "Richard Head".

Using the shortened version of Richard (not Rich).
