Points

Hi Martin,

I have to admit, I feel rather bad at the lack of pointing that I've been able to do. I normally point straight away and accordingly. However, I have a rather bad connection to the forums, through my corporate proxy and firewall, which means that when I go to assign points I get a 404. I do try to go back, but sometimes my connection does not allow me back until 24 hours later, by which stage I have forgotten about the replies to my question.

Am I correct in pointing the most valid and usefull answer, or should I be pointing everyone that gives a reply?

Apologies for the apparently lack of consideration.

Re: Points

All of them. N/A if no info 'bout the question, or just joking around. 1-3, if it /is/ info regarding the problem, but doesn't help.

Well, just do asign points and read the text given. But please, give *all* point, if even just 1.
Enjoy, Have FUN! H.Merijn

-points system definition-
Each response to a question is eligible to receive feedback for its success in solving the user???s problems. The Question Author rates the responses on a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high). A N/A grade is available as well and would apply, for example, if a user gave a response that did not answer but simply asked the Question Author for more information.

Re: Points

Alex,

I appreciate your sincerity - and that's cool.
But I look at it this way - I respond because I want to truly help - that's it.
Believe it or not, that's all.
If points follow, great.

Some of us check profiles before we respond. I don't follow that mindset, but I stand in no position to pass judgement on them - or any others for that matter - for any reason.
We're here to simply share knowledge, no more - no less.
Hell, I learn more when I post a less that accurate response than at any other time & I'm not afraid to do so because I know that JRF, Clay, Harry, et. al. will set me straight. And do so (usually) w/o slamming me.
So more power to you - go out there & use YOUR best judgment on how/when you award points & don't feel guilty if you don't/can't & don't get upset if you don't get 'em. Just keep posting & replying!
It takes people like you & I to make this forum a success....OOOOHHHH I can guess we can toss Dan G. in there as well ;~)

Best Rgds,
Jeff

Re: Points

Alex

I agree with you its often hard to go back the next day and find postings you have not acknowledged. I have 45 out of 47 and I have been searching for the missing postings for two weeks now.

I also suffer from timeouts and connection refused which doesn't help.

still the most important issue is the willingness to share information and help each other more than becoming the top hat from attaining points.

John.
