SolutionI suggest you use CIFS/9000 Samba to print to the printer. It can be configured like any other cups printer now that you have the Dlink device. Hopefully the DLINK device is Linux/Unix compatible.
That in my opinion is your best option.

swlist -l product | grep cifs
maybe replace cifs with Samba in the swlist command.

Once you have a fixed IP address for it, then hppi will work fine. It's best to use an IP address for configuring the printer -- names, especially for printers tend to get lost in DNS admins and hosts files.
