printer busy always

Dear All,

I have about 30 printers installed on my hp-ux 11.23. These have worked for about 3 years now without any problem.

This morning one of the printers would not print. I went to SAM and saw that the printer is always busy even though all the print jobs have been cleared. I stopped and started the print queue but the problem still persisted.

Can someone help me?

try the following commands in the same sequence

#reject printer_name
#disable printer_name
#lpshut
#lpsched
#enable printer_name
#accept printer_name

Is this a network/remote printer? Is it connected to a print server? Did you check the printer? Can you ping it?

No printer problems for 3 years! Lucky you.

Print queues go empty when they have successfully sent the job to the printer.
If your printer is just printing itself like crazy than something may be wrong on the printer itself.
For HPUX
..disable that printer
...then do a ps -ef | grep and make sure that no job isn't sending some very small print jobs that just flies through the queue, but ties up the printer. If there is somthing showing up for that printer - kill

Try turning the printer off for a few minutes to see if that clears it up. Or go to the printer and cancel whatever print job is still printing on it at the printer console.
