Printer-Problem: "connection failed" on HPUX B.11.23 running on Itanium ia64

hi folks,

once a while i've got problems with some printers on my system.

- the networkprinters are connected to an AXIS560 printserver-box.
- printer-model differs!

well, the thing is that i can ping the axis-box without any problems.

the printer appears still as "enabled" in my shell... from time to time it's "disabled" while this problem appears as well.

using the "lpstat" i get a message from my machine:

"connection to failed"

my workaround: telnet to the axis box and perform a hardreset.

sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
then i make 2 or 3 hardresets in a row.

has anybody any idea?

thnxx in advance!

Did you add it as remote printer in sam or did you use the axinstall utility from axis?

Setting the printer up as a remote printer (LPR) may be causing the issue. Sometimes the required using the LPR protocol is not sent back properly (from the remote system) and in turn causes the lpstat to hang. The first sign of this issue is that printers are periodically "disabled" on the local system. Re-enabling only band-aids the issue. I would suggest setting the printer up as Luk suggests with the axisinstall utility.
