I tried to do it though sam but I get the error.
The HP JetDirect printer software is not installed on your system
(neither the command "/opt/hpnp/admin/jetadmin" nor the command
"/usr/lib/hpnp/admin/hpnpcfg" exist). Therefore, it is not possible
to add a printer that is connected to an HP JetDirect interface.
I have downloaded some printing software and I have the dir /opt/hpnpl not /opt/hpnp. What am I doing wrong? And how do I go about setting this up? I can ping the the HP Printer and it is in the etc hosts file.
Thanks
Richard

Re: printing problem ..
If it were me, I would install the older (and better version) of JetDirect and remove the new stuff using swremove. The old and good version of JetDirect is still available:
ftp ftp.hp.com
(anonymous login)
cd /pub/networking/software
bin
get HP11d621.SD
or get HP10d621.SD (10.20 version)
You then install this using swinstall and execute /opt/hpnp/bin/jetadmin. It will step you through all the needed tasks.

Re: printing problem ..
By network printer, I'm assuming you mean that it has a network card and is connected to the network. What printer software did you load? You need to load HP Jetdirect software.
I think it is on the application cd 1

Re: printing problem ..
Your version is the newer JetDirect software which is almost universally disliked. The D (older) version does install in the /opt/hpnp directory. If you download the older version, your problems will disappear. I'm not saying the newer version can't be made to work but rather that the older version is a better product - in my opinion.

Re: printing problem ..
I would also prefer to use the HP jetadmin software (D.06.21) HP11d621.SD to install and then use /opt/hpnp/bin/jetadmin utility to configure printers connected on jet-direct card.
Thanks.

Re: printing problem ..
How cool is that????
I actully did call hp and they stood by the newer relase of the jetadmin software and said that it does work better. But I did remove it and installed the older version and I even set up remote printing .. =)
thanks everyone
Richard
