Printing via LPR from UNIX box to HP650C

I have been trying to set up LPR printing from a UNIX box (IRIX) to an HP650C printer. Jobs under ~7MB work perfectly. Jobs of larger size have been coming out corrupted. Any suggestions?

Background: I found in the HP document "HP Printers - Setting up and configuring an LPR Printer on a Macintosh" that when printing via LPR the printer could not respond to say it was out of paper, etc. I took this a step further thinking we may be overrunning the printer's memory with the job. We printed out the config page for the printer and found that it did have ~64 MB of RAM installed. When we checked the status from a Macintosh however it showed ~7 free and ~64 installed. We checked to see if the printers memory was being used by fonts, but there were only a couple of fonts loaded and they could not be removed. We called HP and while we were on the phone we removed the RAM one stick at a time and verifed that it was being recognized by the printer (also confirmed that it was HP RAM as we were told that other brands often cause problems). We were also told by HP that we should not believe the amount of free RAM being reported by the Mac.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Check the settings on the machine the printer is connected to, on PC's there is a setting to set the output to raw a similar setting should be on the MAC.
The other alternative is to get a jetdirect box or a PC and plug it into it.
Minimum effort maximum output!
