Re: problem configuring modem with RP4440

I reveal myself as a fake sysadmin. Real sysadmins don't use gui's.

However for something like this, which I do once every three or four years, I just use sam.

Re: problem configuring modem with RP4440

Hi,

Commenting this line will not work as then getty will not run on that port and you will not get login after connecting.Allthough this message seems to come only because of this entry. Just check if this device file does exists and try changing file permissions to 777 or something.
Also attach your /etc/inittab & output of ll /dev/ttyd0p2.

I've been able to somehow solve the previous getty problem.
But now the problem i'm facing is that after issuing the command
# cu -l cul1p2 -s 19200 dir
connected

After that i just hangs and won't allow me to execute the AT commands.

Could anyone plz guide me what will be the issue?

Re: problem configuring modem with RP4440

Hi Fayyaz,

Are you trying to use the remote console port on the server for modem connectivity? If so, please be aware that this is meant for HP Engineers to login to the system.

This is not good for dialing-out. Moreover, the modems which can be used on this remote console port are having HP specific firmware and settings.

I have come across support link modems with HP specific firmware to be used on the remote console port.

Hope this helps.

Mohan.

Re: problem configuring modem with RP4440

Hi

I hope you are able to dial in to the GSP and login as Admin. After the login if you type the 'CO' to access the console the the connection is getting diconnected with the said error. Can you see in the '/etc/inittab' file for tyd0p2 entry, is hould look like 'ttp1:234:respawn:/usr/sbin/getty -h tty0p1 9600'.
Which is the modem you are trying with, we have multitech modems which are working fine without any troubles. can you provide more deatils..

Re: problem configuring modem with RP4440

Hi Fayyaz,

As I told you already, This port is only for dial-in and it is not for commercial use. It is only meant for the HP Engineers to dial-in to troubleshoot.

The firmware and Modem type is not a problem. Please let me know what you want this modem configured for.

For regular users to dial-in remotely, you need to have a mux card and configure the mux ports with the modem.

With regards,
Mohan.
