Re: Problem extending lvol7 in VG00
looks like the disk /dev/dsk/c3t6d0 has failed. Fix this first.
Refer to
http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-1236/When_Good_Disks_Go_Bad.pdf
on how to proceed.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Problem extending lvol7 in VG00
It looks like you may have a failed disk. Use ioscan to see if you can still see /dev/dsk/c0t6d0.
If it is showing as NO HARDWARE then you will need to place a hardware call.

Berd

SolutionAs for your lvextend command the reason you can't extend is because you have a strict allocation policy set and have additonal lvols on the disk after lvol7. Top get around this you will have to remove the extra lvols or I think a lvchange -s n /dev/vg00/lvol7 might fix the problem but I've never used this method before as I always try to keep all my lvols in vg00 contiguous.

Re: Problem extending lvol7 in VG00
vgchange -a y vg00
vgsync vg00
and check the status again.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Problem extending lvol7 in VG00
# lvextend -L 4000M /dev/vg00/lvol7
Also you might want to look to see if you have any lvols with data on /dev/dsk/c3t6d0. You can use lvdisplay to see that info. If you do not have any extents used on that drive for any of the lvols you can remove it from the volume group. Then you can look into the issue you have with that disk. I hope you have a backup of the data in vg00.

Re: Problem extending lvol7 in VG00
Once you get the disk back and synced, you will probably have lvol1 to lvol8 mirrored, but the other lvols are not mirrored:
LV Name /dev/vg00/lvol11
LV Status available/syncd
LV Size (Mbytes) 1000
Current LE 125
Allocated PE 125
Used PV 0 ___!!!!!
Please post also
lvdisplay -v /dev/vg00/lvol7
(without all the extend information).
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Problem extending lvol7 in VG00
1. disk is dead.. but you have mentioned disk is fine and there are no hw issues on that.
2. someone has done pvcreate -f on that disk. If this is the case then you have to either bring down the system in lvm maintenace mode and restore the vg configuration then reboot... else you need to lvreduce and vgreduce the disk using the Key value and extend the vg and lv once again..

Are they mounted? If yes - any data in them?
Do you have a good backup?
