Problem While add disk

Hi all,

I have a HP D - Class server With hp ux 11.0 installed over it.
There is mirroring is configured for Main disk
Since the mirror disk has gone bad, I had changed it.

When I try to add the new hard disk in vg00 VG so that it becomes mirror disk, it is saying disk addition failed..

Please help me what should I do.
Regards,
Senthil

Re: Problem While add disk

Review the document for replacing a root disk. You'll want to follow the steps for replacing a root disk with mirror...

http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000062687426

let us know if you have any questions regarding the process.

How exactly was it that the disk was replaced... what commands had been run to get you to the error?

Re: Problem While add disk

Hi Senthil,

You should follow the procedure posted to u by Denver. U need to set the SCSI ID of the replacement disk to the SCSI id set on the failed disk.

Best luck,

Re: Problem While add disk

Hi,

I didnt follow any procedures on Removing the disk.
There are 2 Main diks in Server both are HOT SWAP.. Devices.
These both dsks form vg00
In which 1st dsk is has Root and Primary swap, Which is mirrored strictly. the mirror of 1st dsk is stored in 2nd dsk.
When the dsk was not sensing., I got a working HDD of same model and installed.
When adding the dsk to vg00 using SAM-LVM I get a msg that the there is already a entry in lvmtab file for the /dev/dsk/..
Now what should I do. simply follow the procedure above or should I need to do some thing before I proceed.
If you give vgdisplay of vg00
it says one or more pv cannot be found ..
Please suggest me..

Re: Problem While add disk

Replace the failed disk and do the same as refered in the document.

Just do a ioscan to find that the replaced disk is in the claimed state.

THanks

Re: Problem While add disk

The new disk is there, all that has to be done now is to put the lvm info and data back on it. Use the document and follow the steps for replacing a mirrored root disk.

Re: Problem While add disk

Hi Senthil,
After adding the replacement disk you need to follow the procedure defined, u need to perform those steps in single user mode.
