Problem with HPUX mounting

Hi,

I'm using HP-UX B.11.23 system. I've been having some problem in mounting a filesystem that has been defined in /etc/fstab as shown below.

fstab entries:
/dev/vgsap/ora10264 /oracle/PRD/102_64 vxfs rw,suid,nolargefiles,delaylog,datainlog 0 2
/dev/vgsap/orasapreog /oracle/PRD/sapreorg vxfs rw,suid,nolargefiles,delaylog,datainlog 0 2
/dev/vgsap/oraarch /oracle/PRD/oraarch vxfs rw,suid,nolargefiles,delaylog,datainlog 0 2

When I executed "mount -a", it display the following:
mount: /dev/vgsap/oraarch: No such file or directory
mount: /dev/vgsap/orasapreog: No such file or directory
mount: /dev/vgsap/ora10264: No such file or directory

I've tried to delete these directories from /oracle/PRD directory and recreate it. But it's still the same result.

FYI, my "vgsap" is actually located in my san disk, not on local disk.

Please kindly advice what could be the issue and how can it be fixed.

Appreciate for any of your help and advice.

Thank you.

Re: Problem with HPUX mounting

Shalom,

ioscan -fnCdisk
# please post

The messages mean:

The path you are trying to mount do not exist.

ll /dev/vgsap/oraarch
ll /dev/vgsap/orasapreog
ll /dev/vgsap/ora10264

Please post results.

Re: Problem with HPUX mounting

Mart,

can you post O/P of LVs

#lvdisplay /dev/vgsap/oraarch

#lvdisplay /dev/vgsap/orasapreog

Re: Problem with HPUX mounting

As you can see from the output of vgdisplay, the logical volumes are not present in the volume group.

Either they have not been defined as loogical volumes or the three files have subsequently been deleted:

/dev/vgsap/oraarch not found
/dev/vgsap/orasapreog not found
/dev/vgsap/ora10264 not found

You will need to first define the volumes using lvcreate and use newfs to create file systems in the volumes.

Once that is done you should be able to mount the file systems as per /etc/fstab.

Assuming this was all previously working, you then have to recover the data from a backup.

Re: Problem with HPUX mounting

Hi Jim,

Yes, you are right.

I might have deleted them accidentally.

"You will need to first define the volumes using lvcreate and use newfs to create file systems in the volumes."

Please kindly advice on how to fix this problem?

Is it possible to use SAM to configure it?

Please kindly advice.

Thanks.

Re: Problem with HPUX mounting

Hi Mart3n,

Don't worry, the required device files can be recreated manually with mknod. First of all, provide the output of the following listing:

# ll /dev/vgsap

Re: Problem with HPUX mounting

Mart3n,

I suspected that ora10264 has no raw device pair...

br--r----- 1 root sys 64 0x010014 Aug 25 14:52 ora10264

To create the raw half of it:

# /sbin/mknod /dev/vgsap/rora10264 c 64 0x010014

You can also try to create the device files for the missing LVs:

# /sbin/mknod /dev/vgsap/oraarch b 64 0x010012
# /sbin/mknod /dev/vgsap/roraarch c 64 0x010012

# /sbin/mknod /dev/vgsap/orasapreog b 64 0x010013
# /sbin/mknod /dev/vgsap/rorasapreog c 64 0x010013

If the above doesn't work, maybe you should create these in another order, I mean with the minors reversed...

Hope this helps,
Viktor

Re: Problem with HPUX mounting

As Deeos noticed, the count of current and opened LVs are not matching.

# from the vgdisplay output:
Cur LV 17
Open LV 14

This suggests me that only these three LVs are missing (15-16-17). Let me know if the mknod procedure helped...
