I am trying to configure a L-Class HP box. I have to confess I am quit novice on that and I am doing it from scratch.
At certain point (configuring NFS... I think) There was a power failure and the system crashed. Afterwards I have this message on the console:
"An error has ocurred!
Refer to the file /etc/rc.log for more information."
I have included that file as attachment cos I do not really understant what the error is and what I can do about it.
Some of the symthoms are:
+The definition of the terminal in the console is lost, so each time I login I have to set $TERM=2392
+On SAM: "Domain Name is not set. You cannot configure NIS+ tables."
+On root's mail:
"WARNING: POTENTIAL SYSTEM PROBLEM - For Series 800 Machines
System Diagnostics & Error Logging programs and HP Predictive Support have NOT been installed on your system. (...)". When I try to install that software I have got this:
"Could not contact host "myhp". Make sure the hostname is correct."
But if i type #hostname "myhp" appears...
Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Problems configuring HP 11i
Hi Oscar,
You can rerun the initial system configuration and set the install time system parameters using /sbin/set_parms with the option as initial. Do "man set_parms" for more info.
Try
# /sbin/set_parms initial
Then set the parameters as desired. Then give the things a try once again.
Hope this helps.

There's nothing unusual in rc.log other than the NIS option. Are you using NIS? If not or you don't know, turn it off in /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs and that will remove the error message in rc.log.

Related to having NIS started but not working or configured correctly.

The diagnostics are installed from the Support Plus CDROM.

Start by simplfying networking: rename the /etc/resolv.conf file if it exists. Then make sure /etc/hosts has myhp listed correctly. Once that is done, do an nslookup myhp and then nslookup 12.34.56.78 where the IP address is the one for myhp...nslookup should tell you that it is the myhp machine.
Now restart swagentd so it can re-read all the networking info:
swagentd -r
And you should be able to install the diagnostics.
