We have a L2000 old server attached to 2 SC10s with PV links (4 BCCs in all) mirrored to one another. One of the BCCs failed, we replaced the BCC successfully. After ioscan -fn, the 5 disks from the replaced BCC were being seen as CLAIMED, so far so good.
Unfortunately, trying to vgdisplay -v on VGs on the SC10, yields the dreaded "Couldn't query physical volume" on all disks which are on the replaced BCC. Also, only 3 links are appearing on the vgdisplay, no "Alternate Link" is visible for the replaced BCC.
The firmware on the new BCC was higher than the other one, so I upgraded firmware on the other BCC. But still, the same problem remained.
Any idea what I shall do?
Vince

Re: PV link not up after replacing BCC on SC10
Option B: the new BCC is bad as well as the old.
Option C: Power supply issues?
Option D: Termination issues?
Fortunately, you've got two SC10's to check parts and options with. The easiest to check would be to swap the terminators with the other SC10. Then swap the power supplies.
Then, (for any and all of this, of course after a good backup!) try swapping the bcc's from the other unit with this one and see if the drives come up.

Re: PV link not up after replacing BCC on SC10
I did the dip switches and the other switch the same as the faulty BCC. This one was faulty for sure, it had amber LED and the SC10 was beeping. After replacement, the SC10 stop beeping and it returned to a green normal LED.
After ioscan -fn, the disks were seen successfully after replace, ent, so I would exclude faulty BCC, faulty PSU and faulty terminator. I would think this is a LVM issue, anybody with other ideas?

Re: PV link not up after replacing BCC on SC10
then I think just a "vgsync" should do the trick.

Re: PV link not up after replacing BCC on SC10
Yes as mentioned earlier "vgchange -a y" should do it for you. Everything is fine as hardware level at this stage since you have the devices file through the faulty path accessible now.

Re: PV link not up after replacing BCC on SC10
Saved me from hassle of rebooting the server (which would have done the same thing).
Kind Regards,
Vince
