PVCREATE

Hi all,

Just wondering, when I try to create a physical volume I get the following error:

pvcreate -f /dev/dsk/c0t6d0
Couldn't stat physical volume "/dev/dsk/c0t6d0"
pvcreate: Couldn't open physical volume "/dev/dsk/c0t6d0"
No such file or directory

Why is this happening and which file etc do I have to create for this to work for me

Re: PVCREATE

You should be using /dev/rdsk/c0t6d0

Do an ioscan -fn and see if this device is actually CLAIMED.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: PVCREATE

A: You do a pvcreate on a RAW disk, using the /dev/rdsk file
B: Is the disk there?
try usimg diskinfo or dd to check the disk

Re: PVCREATE

Hi thanks for responding,

Well it says the same thing if I use rdsk, and also when I do an ioscan -fnCdisk the disk is CLAIMED.

It is strange because when I run 'strings /etc/lvmtab it shows:

/dev/vg00
x3h$8m
/dev/dsk/c0t6d0

???

Re: PVCREATE

....there are also no entries in /dev/dsk or /dev/rdsk

Re: PVCREATE

Since the device show up as claimed, run "insf" and then another "ioscan -fn" and you should see the device nodes.

Re: PVCREATE

so do you see any devcie files if you do ioscn -funCdisk ?
if not, run insf -e
then try
dd if=/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0 of=/dev/null bs=10k count=100
if that errors you have a hardwar eproblem
