Quality pack

I'm trying to install quality pack QPK1100_11.00.depot on an HP-712/100 with HP-UX 11.00.
It will only mark partial at the mark for install step excluding PHKL_21276,a=HP-UX_B.11.00_64,v=HP and a few others with the _64 (i guess they are for 64 bit).
After analysis it shows ready with errors
products 367 of 429.
It installed to 46% then suspended. I had nothing else to do but reboot
bus errors all over the place at boot up. I have to reload don't I?

Re: Quality pack

A command like this will display the log of the install.

swjob -a log hostname-#### hostname:/

#### replaced with the job nubmer of the install.

The installation is incomplete, and needs to be redone if you want the quality pack installed. I'd check the error first.

Re: Quality pack

It won't even come up to the login prompt.

Re: Quality pack

Oh.

Much more serious.

Do you have a make_tape_recovery backup handy?

You need to boot off that tape and restore the system to where it was before the patch.

Since the system became a paperweight as a result of the patch installation, it seems reasonable to reverse that step.

boot the box with the tape in the drive

Interupt at the 10 second prompt

sea

bo P#

N Don't Interact

P# should be the P number of the sequential(tape) drive.

Re: Quality pack

I never made a backup because I'm sooooo new. This is my first attempt at this and I bought HP-UX 11.00 install CD's on ebay because I knew at some point this would happen. Now I have to wait for the OS and now I get to learn how to install Unix....Lifes a garden...dig it!

Re: Quality pack

Okay: two things.

Your license might not be valid, but thats not my problem.

At this point, I would do the following.

Boot the system off the core OS CD.

You might be able to boot into a recovery shell and fix the problem.

If however, you just installed the OS anyway, you should re-install the OS.

Make sure you include Ignite and start doing make_tape_recovery backups to presere your work.

You have checked that the hardware is compatible right?

Re: Quality pack

Did you back up the kernel before patching by chance? If not... and this is the first reboot after the patch process rebuilt the kernel, I would think you should have vmunix.prev available that should be your prior version. Choose to interact with ISL (if I recall the TLA correctly) and try an 'hpux ls' to see if you have it, and 'hpux vmunix.prev' if you do.

As far as backing out of the depot - I'm not the expert on such matters and will defer... but that at least should hopefully get you rebooted.
