Questions on Dec '05 (11.23 Standard Patch Bundles)
Hi HP Admin Gurus,
I am new to this world, I have few questions for applying Dec '05 (11.23 Standard Patch Bundles). We have a brand new HP systems (rx4640 Itanium). Our admin left after some intial work done, I see he has applied the HP-UX 11i v2, May 2005. 2 major applications on this server are 1. Oracle 9i software. 2. OmniBack software and database.
Q1. Is it any helpful to apply the Dec'05 bundeled patch ?
Q2. What are the resources/procedure that I need to follow?
Q3. Any known issues of applying this patch ?
Thanks for all your help.
Vijay

Re: Questions on Dec '05 (11.23 Standard Patch Bundles)
Hi:
1. Since this is a new server, I would go ahead and install the latest (December 2005) patch bundle even though you are fairly current.
2. You will need to plan a reboot to install the patch bundle.
3. As always, it is good insurance to take an Ignite backup *before* you do your patch application. Too, you should *read* and follow all patch notes and particularly any special instructions for the patches contained in the bundle(s) you are installing. One way to do this is to browse the patch notes by navigating the bundle on the ITRC Patch Database.
Regards!

Re: Questions on Dec '05 (11.23 Standard Patch Bundles)
Shalom,
I usually wait a while before doing a new release. See if there are any major issues and such.
The version of Secure shell in this bundle is replaced several times over, if your display is of the patch set. I'd go to software.hp.com for that binary.
Q1. Is it any helpful to apply the Dec'05 bundeled patch ?
Yes, but I'd give time for Oracle or other people to work out the kinks.
Q2. What are the resources/procedure that I need to follow?
It will reboot your system, schedule a make_tape_recovery or make_net_recovery before and downtime after sufficent to restore your system if it becomes unbootable
swinstall -x autoreboot=y -x reinstall=false -s \*
Q3. Any known issues of applying this patch ?
I certainly haven't installed it yet. I've only got two 11.23 systems. Plus I'm part of a team, don't make decisions all by myself.
