Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

From your commands and their outputs, I see two issues and they are linked to each other.

1. mountall: /dev/dsk/c4t0d0 has to be fsck'd
2. vgchange: Warning: couldn't query physical volume "/dev/dsk/c4t0d0":

Your /etc/fstab has an entry to mount /dev/dsk/c4t0d0 as a whole disk (from the mountall) and it was also included as an LVM disk in vg01 configuration.

So, it looks like someone messed up the disk c4t0d0. But make sure if the above is really the case first and post.

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

Check to see if this disk is still showing as belonging to /dev/vg01...Compare it with another disk that is part of that volgroup..

Run:

echo "0x2008?4D" | adb /dev/dsk/c4t0d0
echo "0x2008?4D" | adb /dev/dsk/

Compare the last column in the output of both..that field is the VGID. If they are NOT the same than the disk got 'hosed' somehow. But you might be able to do a vgcfgrestore to put the info back on the disk using restore.
vgcfgrestore -n /dev/vg01 /dev/dsk/c4t0d0

Now you'd want to vgchange -a n first and then vgcfgrestore.

But if that last field is the same as the other disk, than the disk still belongs to that volgroup.
Before trying to activate volume group-try turning it off...Do you run MC/SG..
vgchange -c n /dev/vg01
vgchange -a n /dev/vg01 (optional)
vgchange -a y /dev/vg01 (or -a e )

Now see if you can display the volume group.

Just a couple thoughts to try..
Rgrds,
Rita

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

Hi,

what says lvmtab ?
Are you able to activate vg whitout quorum (vgchange -q n) and see if "cur pv" is equal to "act pv", if it's not, you have "gost disk" ...

Also you have "lvm.11" tools to easily see lvm configuration on disk (lvm.10 for 10.20) : lvm.11 -p -d /dev/rdsk/cxtydz

Hope this help

hi guys i think u guys need to chek out this thread...

there is a history too.. so i guess u could answer better with this info too..

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

hi guys.. this is what i got from the echo commands

# echo "0x2008?4D" | adb /dev/dsk/c1t15d0

2008: 1865900681 1081890118 1865900681 1081890118

# echo "0x2008?D" | adb /dev/dsk/c4t0d0

2008:

text address not found

by the way what does vgcfgrestore do exaclty ?? is it risky ? also .. i believe that there is a saved lvmtab.config file.. what can i do with that???

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

Hi,

this output mean :
2008:
cpu-id (wich done the pvcreate)
pv-id
cpu-id again (but wich done the vgcreate)
vg-id

You have to make this command on at least 2 disk within the same vg to compare vg-id and to see if primary link has the same pv-id than alternate link.
But i suggest you to use "lvm.11" tool for reading lvm areas on disk, it's more completed.

What show lvmtab ?
How many device you must have in this vg ?
What about vgchange -a y -q n vg01 ?

Vgcfgrestore restore lvm areas stored on disk to the kernel. You have to do that to recover the lvm conf of c4t0d0.

hope this help

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

well Laurent .. all the info u required is in the initial query.. except the Lvmtab

# strings lvmtab

/dev/vg00

@|UF

/dev/dsk/c1t15d0

/dev/vg01

/dev/dsk/c4t0d0

# vgchange -a y /dev/vg01

vgchange: Warning: Couldn't attach to the volume group physical volume "/dev/ds

/c4t0d0":

Invalid argument

vgchange: Warning: couldn't query physical volume "/dev/dsk/c4t0d0":

The specified path does not correspond to physical volume attached to

this volume group

vgchange: Warning: couldn't query all of the physical volumes.

vgchange: Couldn't activate volume group "/dev/vg01":

Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

where will the vgcfgrestore pickup the restore info from ? can u give me the command?? looks to me like although the devlice c4t0d0 is claimed.. i cannot talk to it.. since in the IRM is says that the drives are failed...

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

Normaly, how many disk you have in vg01, only c4t0d0 ?

man vgcfgrestor show you that you restore the lvm conf stored ON the disk and put it in files (lvmtab, /etc/lvmconf/vg01.conf) and kernel.

#vgcfgrestore -n /dev/vg01 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0

if it help you, points are welcome ;-)

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

hi Laurent

this is what happens..

# vgcfgrestore -n /dev/vg01 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0
vgcfgrestore: IO error on Physical Volume device /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0: # 1

will assign points when its fixed.. dont worry.. u get points for trying...

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

Try #diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0

if it respond ioerror, probaly disk is dead (echo "2008 ..." done ioerror too)

What about lvm.11 output ?

You can also try to recreate c4t0d0's device files :
#rmsf /dev/dsk/c4t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0
#insf -e

is there messages in syslog (scsi powerfailed) and what about ems's logs ?

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

# diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0
SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0:
vendor: I2O
product id: RAID5
type: direct access
size: 215058432 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 512

so disk is not dead

i also recreated the device files but to no avail...

its just not talking to the drives.. physically

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

What are saying syslog and ems's log ?

#dd if=/dev/rdsk/c4t0d0 of=/dev/null bs=1024 count=30

#lvm.11 -p -d /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0

Finaly try to recreate vg01 :

#mkdir /dev/vg01
#cd /dev/vg01
#mknod group c 64 0x010000
#vgimport /dev/vg01 /dev/dsk/c4t0d0

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

Hi,

happy to try to help you, but i don't understand what do you do between the vgcfgrestore wich failed on this post, and the successfully vgcfgrestore youre done on the other post (http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=625140) ?

I'm very interesting to know what's the problem with the first vgcfgrestore i suggested you to done. Thank's for your help.

Regards.

Re: Quorum not present, or some physical volume(s) are missing.

a yes.. i guess i forgot to mention .. no one caught this one... in the IRM the status of the 4 drives were offline.. dont know why.. guess once i connected the JBOD back to the rp2470 they did not come online. so i forced them to online status and then the vgcfgrestore worked..
thanx .. and nice catch and thanx Laurent
chk ur points again
