Suppose situation, where I have cluster with two machines with database Oracle 10g and implemented RAC. Is it possible to run ServiceGuard with package oracle without extension for RAC ? What are the main benefits SgeRAC ?

Re: RAC and ServiceGuard
without SgeRAC you can activate the VG's as exclusive mode, if you want activate the vg's as shared mode you need SGERAC.

Re: RAC and ServiceGuard
You Need SGeRAC in the following cases in your ORACLE RAC Implementation:
1. If you would like to implement Oracle RAC Cluster Database on Clustered-File-System(CFS) there's no choice left but SGeRAC.
2. If you would like to implement Oracle RAC ASM on Shared-Logical-Volumes (SLVM).
Furthermore, in HPUX-11.31 we can implement ORACLE RAC without ServiceGuard.
If any one can share his/her experience or knowledge in this regard will be appreciated.
Regards,

Re: RAC and ServiceGuard
- You have Oracle RAC configured with Oracle Clusterware (no Serviceguard Extension for RAC)
- You have other non-Oracle RAC components you now want to cluster
- You want to install the "normal" version of Serviceguard (without SGeRAC) and use these to cluster some non-RAC components
Well that's not going to work. You would have 2 clustering technologies on the same system that were not aware of each other. If Oracle Clusterware is on the same system as Serviceguard, then it MUST be under the control of SGeRAC - anything else is not supportable.
So your choices are:
- Run Oracle Clusterware with Oracle RAC, with no Serviceguard installed.
- Run "normal" Serviceguard with no Oracle Clusterware and no RAC databases, but youy can configure failover packages
- Run SGeRAC, controlling Clusterware with Oracle RAC and you can also configure failover packages
