Re: RAC Vs OPS

RAC is simply the newer name for essentially the same product; much like OmniBack and DataProtector.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: RAC Vs OPS

OPS or Oracle Parallel Server is what Oracle used to cal it, but they renamed it Oracle Real Application Cluster, or RAC.
Just basically a name change.

Re: RAC Vs OPS

Real Aplication Cluster is the new name of Oracle Parallel Server.
OPS was used with oracle 8i and RAC is being used with oracle 9i and later products.

Re: RAC Vs OPS

RAC (Real Application Cluster) is an Oracle technology that enables both high availability (failover and maintenance) and a means of multi-threading computing power. OPS is similiar to RAC but differs in how RAC brings together the computing power of multiple servers.(go to http://www.oracle.com/technology/index.html )

What Clay might have been refering to in the area of backups is Oracle's tool call RMAN.

Re: RAC Vs OPS

Hi Rambo,

OPS and RAC or the same.

http://www.orafaq.com/faq/what_is_rac_ops

Visit above link for more details.

In Oracle 8i and below, RAC was called Parallel Server (OPS). Oracle rebranded it RAC when they releaed Oracle 9i.
