Raw logical Vol in LVM & VxVM of vxfs type are different ?
We have recently encountered a situation in which we tried to restore from DataProtector a raw LV created under VxVM (vxfs), onto a raw LV created under LVM (vxfs).
Upon restore we could not mount raw lv under LVM as it complained fs corrupted.
So question is, raw LVs under VxVM & LVM are different ? and if so, is there any way we can covnert it to VxVM raw LV ?

Re: Raw logical Vol in LVM & VxVM of vxfs type are different ?
AFAIK, VxFS (or the any Filesystem) is INDEPENDENT of the Underlying VOLUME. You can have VxFS Filesystems ON TOP of LVM or VxVM Volumes (or LVOLS).
I have not any experience with DataProtector but with vxdump/vxrestore or NetBackup/Networker - I can restore painlessly.
BTW, is there any difference between how the LVM LVOL was built and the VxVM Volume? Did you employ the same block sizes on the Filesystem on VxVM and LVM?
How did DP backup the Filesystem? As RAW? If RAW.. then you will likely have issues...

Re: Raw logical Vol in LVM & VxVM of vxfs type are different ?
Hi,
You can migrate the lvm vg to vxvm. You cannot do this for a single lv. whole vg or nothing.
This link from itrc outlines the conceptual differnece between lvm and vxvm,
http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000062922884
The itrc doc id is VxVM005.
I believe, lvm to vxvm is a one way street. You use "vxvmconvert" utility of vxvm to migrate from lvm to vxvm.
Check out the Veritas volume manager migration guide on the hp doc site for more help in migrating the lvm vg to vxvm.

Hope this helps.

hi,
may be foolish question?
how you are mounting raw lv.i know only about mounting a filesystem.
