Reading Application Software CD

I got 11.11 and mounted 1/5 Application Software CD. I need to install OnLineJFS and Mirror-UX. I can see the files on it just fine.

But when I do swinstall and point to the /SD_CDROM, it tells me there is no registered depot on that server.

What is going on and what can be done about it?

Re: Reading Application Software CD

Both of those are licensed products which must be purchased. When you purchase them, you get a codeword that will unlock the depot on the CD. No codeword - no software.

Re: Reading Application Software CD

You need to specify the full path to the .depot file.

Re: Reading Application Software CD

HI Etc,

You need a codeword for those two pieces of software.

You can request them at this site:

Re: Reading Application Software CD

It's the full path.

#:/SD_CDROM/onlinejfs/vxfs-adv-run/etc/vx/elm#:ll
total 4
-r-xr-xr-x 1 4294967295 4294967295 223 Nov 14 2000 50.lic
-r-xr-xr-x 1 4294967295 4294967295 192 Nov 14 2000 readme

When I run swinstall pointing to these files, I get:

The default source xqqqx
x x "/SD_CDROM/onlinejfs/vxfs-adv-run/etc/vx/elm/50.lic" does not exist x x
xlqqx or is not a valid source and there are no other registered depots on xqk x

Re: Reading Application Software CD

P.S.

I am aware I need the keyword, and I have it. Where do I input it? I cannot even get the swinstall to recognize the CD.

BTW, which CD is it? There are 5 total. I am trying 1/5 currently.

Re: Reading Application Software CD

If you are using the swinstall GUI, there is a selection under "Actions" called "Add new codeword". If you are using the command line, I'm guessing it would be one of the "-x" options - check the man page.

Re: Reading Application Software CD

From swinstall, when I choose add the codeword option, I get this:

I also tried giving it as a command line option to no avail.

x Mx The menu item you have chosen is not available for the current state x x
xlqqx of the application.

Re: Reading Application Software CD

Shalom,

You can enter the codeword using swinstal -i

You can even copy the .codeword file from another systtem and the installation will proceed afer that. That doesn't negate the need to license, but it does end the crisis.

I'd try sticking the Cd in and doing swinstall -i

There is an option to search the local cd/dvd for depots. This mounts the drive and gets it all ready.

Just for grins, make sure the swagentd daemon is running. /sbin/init.d/swagentd -R

Re: Reading Application Software CD

Hi:

There is a "contents" file on the CD set that you can examine. For 11.11, both MirrorDisk/UX and OnlineJFS reside on CD#1.

Re: Reading Application Software CD

Hi (again):

As I recall, to enter a codeword, you must mount the CD (DVD) to which you are going to apply the codeword. As I noted, above, you want CD #1.

Re: Reading Application Software CD

1. CD# 1 is mounted, I can see the files.

2. swinstall -x codeword="xxxxx" does not work.

3. swinstall -i does not work.

4. swinstall in GUI mode refuses to accept my codeword (see above error message)

5. .codewords does not work

6. The swagentd daemon is running.

I got the correct CD mounted. What's the next step (spelled out)?

Re: Reading Application Software CD

And it still keeps complaining that /SD_CDROM is not a depot and nothing seems to override that.

Re: Reading Application Software CD

Hi (again):

Mount the CDROM containing the sofware you want to install; run 'swinstall' without options to bring up its menu interface; specify the full path to the depot containing the software; and choose "add new codeword" from the Actions drop-down.

Regards!

Re: Reading Application Software CD

Here's the way I do it:

Insert CD into CD drive
Mount the CD: mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /cdrom
run swinstall: swinstall -s /cdrom
then you can select Actions > Add codeword

Re: Reading Application Software CD

Mount the CDROM containing the sofware you want to install; CHECK

run 'swinstall' without options to bring up its menu interface; CHECK

specify the full path to the depot containing the software; NOT CHECK, There is currently no depot software at location "/CDROM".

and choose "add new codeword" from the Actions drop-down. NOT CHECK The menu item you have chosen is not available for the current state of the application

Re: Reading Application Software CD

Usualy path is SD_CDROM. If you cannot find it here there is option to download jfs from software.hp.com and add additional codeword to register license.

OK, you say you mounted it - where did you mount it? Can we cut and paste the exact mount command you used?

Re: Reading Application Software CD

OK, I tried it exactly the same as you're doing it:

# mount -F cdfs -o cdcase /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /CDROM
# ll /CDROM
total 860
dr-xr-xr-x 1 4294967295 4294967295 2048 Aug 13 2003 100baset-00
dr-xr-xr-x 1 4294967295 4294967295 2048 Aug 13 2003 100baset-01
dr-xr-xr-x 1 4294967295 4294967295 2048 Aug 13 2003 100bt-eisa-fmt
dr-xr-xr-x 1 4294967295 4294967295 2048 Aug 13 2003 100bt-eisa-krn
dr-xr-xr-x 1 4294967295 4294967295 2048 Aug 13 2003 100bt-eisa-run
dr-xr-xr-x 1 4294967295 4294967295 2048 Aug 13 2003 32070b
dr-xr-xr-x 1 4294967295 4294967295 2048 Aug 13 2003 3270-common

And I get exactly the same error that you're getting: "no depot software . . . at location /CDROM".

If I try it without the cdcase option on the mount command:

mount -F cdfs /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /CDROM

It works perfectly.

Re: Reading Application Software CD

And that did the trick!!

Cannot use the -o cdcase, it ruins everything even though looks good. Can you explain why it did this?
Pete Randall
Outstanding Contributor

Re: Reading Application Software CD

No, I can't explain it - I'm not really even sure what "cdcase" does. The man page says it suppresses the display of version numbers and shows and matches file names as lower case. It doesn't sound to me like that should have affected you.

I just tried leaving it out because I've never used it.
