swremove: could not obtain size metrics from font list "8x13"

Hi all

Got a couple of systems - rp8400 HPUX 11.11
All of the sudden I am getting the error as listed above. This occurs with swremove or swinstall both. Then it core dumps

When I try xclock I get the following;
# xclock
Warning: Unable to load any usable ISO8859-1 font
Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion
Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset

And the color is off

Any ideas?

Do have a font server set up? If so, is it still running?

font server is running on both systems

/usr/bin/X11/xfs -config /etc/X11/fs/config -port 7000 -daemon

A quick run through of the doc does not show any of the environments I have.

I am running on Fedora Core 5 as my desktop. Any individual is running HPUX 11.00 on a B class system. He is running CDE as his display environment.

Additional note - in syslog.log I see the following errors:

FontServer[5546]: Warning: Bad font path element: "/usr/lib
/X11/fonts/hp_japanese/100dpi/"

They also say korean, chinese, ttfjpn, etc.

Did someone perhaps "clean up" /usr/lib/X11/fonts or change permissions?

All my font directories are 555 permissions, font files are 444 permissions and everything has bin:bin for owner and group.

No definitive answer - I rebooted my Fedora desktop and my collegue rebooted his HPUX desktop.

Works now.
